Kirkwall (Orkney islands)

Kirkwall is the largest town and capital of the Orkney Islands archipelago, 10 miles off the north coast of Scotland. Founded around 1035, the City and Royal Burgh of Kirkwall is the capital and administrative centre of Orkney. The name comes from the Old Norse, which means church-bay and refers to a church older than the present day Cathedral. Its a museum and competence center with exhibitions telling the story of the town fire and Art Nouveu/Jugendstil in Norway and Europe. Alesund is the site of the annual Norwegian Food Festival.

Longyearbyen is a small town located in the island of Spitsbergen, Svalbard archipelago, Norway. This archipelago was formed millions of years ago and it´s environment is unique. Mostly covered by glaciers and colorful flora. There is also plenty of animal life around: walrus, seals, polar bears and whales can be found on the coast. You can find plenty of cultural activities in Longyearbyen, specially during weekend when the town is visited by musicians and artists and you can find many exhibitions, concerts and other special events. Some of the places you can visit in this town are: the Svalbard Gallery, the Svalbard Museum and the Spitsbergen Airship Museum. You can also practice some sports such as hiking, dog-sledding, kayaking and snowmobile safaris.

Altea (Spain)

Altea is a town and municipality located in the province of Alicante, Spain, north of Alicante on the section of Mediterranean coast called the Costa Blanca. At present, the economy of Altea is based on tourism, which started to grow in the 1950s because of its good weather, beaches and the labyrinthine streets with whitewashed house fronts that characterize the town. Altea is protected on the north by the bluffs of the Serra de Bèrnia, creating an especially mild microclimate. Its seafront esplanade is planted with palms.This maze of cobbled narrow and crooked streets with glimpses of the bay is one of the better features of the town. Other sights include the church of "Our Lady of Solace", easily identifiable by its picturesque blue and white domes, tiled with glazed ceramics. There are numerous quaint restaurants near the church, some with a view over the Mediterranean. Note that you will need to park several blocks away from the church area as the immediately surrounding area is either off limits to cars and/or the streets are so narrow and steep (or have stairs) that cars cannot pass.
