Iony Island

Iony Island is a small island in the Sea of Okhotsk. It is the only one that is in open sea. On the island we can find sea lions and a colony of different marine seabirds. There is no permanent population. It is a natural monument of reagional importance.

Saint Kilda (Scotland)

St Kilda is an isolated archipelago of 4 miles long that includes the westernmost islands of the Outer Hebrides of Scotland. The largest island is Hirta with the highest cliffs in the UK. The total length of paved road is about 1 mile. The walk along the main ridge has some of the most breathtaking views in Britain. Currently the only residents are the Warden and an Army camp giving a total population well under 50. The other islands Dun, Soay and Boreray are uninhabited and rarely visited by travellers.

Surtsey (Iceland)

Surtsey is a volcanic island situated approx. 32 km off the southern coast of Iceland that was formed from a volcanic eruption that began 130 m below sea level and surfaced on 14 November 1963. During its eruption it was heavily studied by volcanologists and once it was over, it was the subject of biologists' research, as it provides valuable information on the colonization of a sterile land.
