The peninsula of Samana is located in the northwest of the country in the Atlantic Ocean, surrounded by beaches of white sand, and is on of the best places to observe humpback whales in the sea. We can find one of the main natural parks in the country: Haitieses Natural Park. The capital is called Santa Barbara de Samara, although they call it only Samana. It was discovered by Cristopher Columbus in his first journey and he departed from here to take the news of the Discovery to the Catholic Kings.
