Santana

Tradition, leisure and nature

This stunning and primarily agricultural region is home to quaint stone houses with thatched roofs, festivals of traditional music and dances known outside its borders, and spectacular natural spaces such as the prehistoric laurel forests full of giant ferns and impossible shapes, listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site for their sheer beauty. This accolade encouraged the villagers to do even more to conserve and maintain their stunning natural environment.

One of the most attractive spots in the area is the Madeira Theme Park. Open all year round, it features attractions for young and old focused on the island's history, traditions and culture. Very close to Santana is Queimadas, the starting point of a trail through the most spectacular levadas in Madeira, ending at the Caldeirão Verde (The Green Cauldron). A must by all definitions.
