I don't usually leave reviews but I thought Hotel Micolau definitely deserved a review. Our Northern Ireland Professional Skiers Club (NIPSC) nine in total and two beginners (Chris & Ryan) visited the week of the 7th Feb and our experience was excellent from start to finish, from the location to the breakfast to the quietness of the hotel, apart from some roudy being sick all night on our last night, not sure who that was but we'd be disgraced if it was apart of our group. The hotel staff were amazing and very accommodating even lending us their hotel reception bell so we could play Happy Families in the Irish bar with the local kids beside the hotel with a few local non-alcoholic Fireballs but unfortunately one of the group forgot to return the bell and went home early and only to realise later that the bell was in his bag. The individual who can't be named but we'll call him as Neil has promised to bring back next year. Big Kissers, Big Dippers, Big Tippers (Karl) and Big Craic all round. We would definitely go back.

“Fantastic service ”

We stayed here over new year. With a group of friends 4 adults and 4 kids age 9-12. We stayed here over new year. With a group of friends 4 adults and 4 kids age 9-12. Check in was smooth the rooms were all ready when we arrived and spotless, maybe a little on the small side but we didn’t spend much time in them. The welcome meeting was informative and helpful. Location of the hotel could not be any better close to everything. Breakfast and afternoon tea were fab the evening meal plentiful but maybe a little on the Salty side. Different choices every day with the menu put on the board at breakfast time the chef is only to happy to offer an alternative for the more picky eaters. Harry, Molly and Louise could not do enough for us during our stay from making sure the rooms are clean to checking your having a nice day when they see you on the slopes. Highly recommended would definitely return.

The Hotel has been leased for exclusive use of Neilson Ski customers and so the booking and checking in was very easy. Most guests arrived on the same transfer bus from the airport. On arrival all the rooms had been organised and room keys and documentation were all ready to hand out. The room was small but perfectly adequate, the bathroom was similarly compact and took a bit of manoeuvring to get the door closed once inside. There was an over the bath shower and we soon learned to take showers at "off peak" times as first thing in the morning and immediately after skiing the water pressure and amount of hot water couldn't cope with demand. The staff were extremely welcoming and helpful and the meals were wholesome and tasty. There was the normal selection of breakfast items and a cooked breakfast was offered every day. Evening meals were at a set time and set choice (although the menu was displayed in the mornings and if you really didn't like what was on offer something else was available). Afternoon tea was served each day with a selection of home cooked cakes and biscuits on offer. The hotel has a small bar and seating area with a selection of family board games available. The rooms were freshened up every day and the place was kept very clean and tidy. There are only 4 staff so you soon became on first name terms with them which was nice. Although the main gondola to the ski area is only a couple of minutes walk away, we opted to rent a heated ski locker at the top of the gondola for our skis and boots so we didn't have to carry them up and down each day ( €51 for the week was money well spent in our opinion). the alternative was the hotel ski storage room and boot cupboard in the lobby (both unheated). There were a couple of decent ski shops adjacent and a small supermarket across the road and plenty of cafes and bars to choose in the village.There is a regular bus service to the main town/ciity of Lavella (€5 return) from closeby which is well worth a visit for some retail therapy. The biggest disadvantage of the central location was the night time noise. The hotel is part of the same building as the adjacent Irish Bar and the late night noise from their music and their customers (and several other closeby similar establishments) was at times very disturbing and went on until 4 or 5 a.m. every night and as it fronts onto the main road the "boy racers" with silly exhaust pipes made their presence heard several times a night too. This is a great venue for a family holiday and access to the slopes is very quick and easy. The ski area is adequate for most skill levels (but is probably less challenging for advanced skiers than some of the bigger alpine resorts) the facilities for beginners are excellent. Unfortunately for us the departure time to come home was 4.00 AM so it was a very early get up on the last day, however even at this time a light breakfast was made available before we were picked up for the airport transfer (and everybody was leaving at the same time so no problems making any noise). The staff are enthusiastic and willing to please and as they were all British there is no language barrier to cope with.

Rooms are small but functional, our room was only ‘cleaned’ ie bed re made once during the entire week. Food is good and plentiful. Don’t think we had one night in the entire week when our party had the right number of glasses or cutlery. Staff seemed very eager to get you out in the morning and at night, I assume to hit the slopes or the bar. Several times our keycard didn’t work and there was no one around to help, one couple actually got completely locked out of the hotel in the early hours of the morning. The hotels location is perfect, a minutes walk in ski gear. Overall a good stay, but staff could do with some training or someone senior to make sure they aren’t slacking off.
