The View is stunning, while locals come too cook-out and for the pool it's the desert behind you and the lake that might draw tourists who want a break from the city. The cabins are nice but some are run down on the outside. Showers, microwave, hot plate, kettle, easy to cook meals or even entertain. The doors barely lock, but security wasn't an issue as you have to CALL the front desk to get in our out of the compound. Love the breakfasts - with coffee and wifi if you get there early and it's not too crowded. We hiked the cross - which is VERY highly recommended. We also kayaked daily down at Club San Juan play park. Oh - and the croissants in the AM are SWEET!

The area is with a lot of houses in different sizes, which makes if possible for 4 people or more to stay like in a modern cabin. The interiour is very nice and with kitchen, bedrooms, etc. - all what you need for a holiday with self service. The breakfast is included in the price - but is very basic and disappointing, which is the reason why I only give 4 stars. There is a big pool area with different pools, area for football, activities, sunbeds, umbrellas, etc. It is very popular and open for people who don't stay at the "hotel" during the weekends. A nice place to relax and enjoy the wonderful sun. You can use it as a base for exploring the area and San Juan City too and then use the fascilities after a long day. There is a bbq at every house where you can prepare your own food. There are NO restaurant at the "hotel" - so either you prepare yourself or go to San Juan to eat lunch and dinner. The complex is in connection with the Dique Ullum, which forms a big lake for a nice view and water sports. It is not expensive when you take the fascilities into account - and I can recommend the place to other people who are in no need of a present restaurant.

We stayed at Del Bono Beach for the duration of the World Freestyle Kayak Championships in Dique de Ullum, San Juan. It was the perfect location in that we could be at the competition venue in under 10 minutes. On first impressions, it was lovely - individual cabins on the side of a lake, overlooking the mountains. Because we used it only as a base, it suited us fine but, if I had been there on holiday, I would have been disappointed. On the upside, the cabins were a good size, and each had its own terrace and barbecue. Also, the people who worked there were very friendly and helpful. However, the whole place felt neglected. The fittings in the cabins were of poor quality and some quite badly damaged. There were knobs missing on drawers and sliding cupboard doors that didn't slide. Although they were cleaned each day, it was a set routine. So, the floors were washed, the sinks and toilets cleaned and the beds made. However, there was a thick layer of dust and even dead mosquitoes on the window ledges and the walls needed a good clean or, even better, re-painting. Also, it would have benefited from having a restaurant or even a cafeteria on site. The Reception offered a fairly mediocre breakfast and some unappetising sandwiches but, given the distance from town, a menu option would prove popular I'm sure. To be fair our stay was in November - so really early in their season, but I would have thought this would be when it's at its best. It is a shame because the concept, location and staff are all lovely. I think it just needs managing better because, with little effort and expense, it could be a perfect venue.
