Hotel Austral is such a charming accommodation in the heart of Ushuaia, Argentina! This is a small hotel with excellent Argentinian hospitality and 5⭐ service. The location is great... just one block up from the main street, San Martin, where the shops, restaurants and museums are. It is also within walking distance to the port where you can take boat cruises to the Penguin Island on the Beagle Channel and where cruise ships to the Antarctica are docked. Taxi to the Martial Glacier costs about ARS1500 (USD5) one way and is about 15 to 20 minutes away from the hotel. The staff are all pleasant and helpful. Reception staff are english speaking. Special thanks to Araceli for all the food and tour suggestions. My room is spacious, bright, spotlessly clean and tastefully decorated. I love the small dainty accents in the room. The bed and pillows are so soft and comfortable. I can say I had the best sleep in my whole 12 days in Argentina in Hotel Austral! Breakfast is basic but tasty and filling. Ham, cheese slices, fruits, sandwiches, croissants and other breads are not displayed but can be ordered at the breakfast counter. I just hope they can adjust the breakfast time to earlier than 7:30am because some tours pick up as early as 7am. Hotel also sells souvenir items at cheaper prices compared to shops on San Martin Street. I got myself some cute ref magnets. Thank you for a wonderful first time in Ushuaia! The hotel occupies a good location, close to the town centre and only a few blocks back from the water front. There are pleasant seating areas around the corridors which have a light, open feel. The staff were friendly and helpful and our room was fine, with a good shower, plenty of toiletries, flannels and an easy-to-operate safe. The only negative was breakfast which was a chaotic affair. One woman tried serving a dozen guests by individually allocating everything from behind a counter, creating an atmosphere of being "on guard" rather than allowing people to help themselves. She did her best and kept apologising, but couldn't keep up with demand eg there weren't enough eggs and the croissants hadn't been delivered. The other offerings included finely chopped fruit (some tinned), cakes, toast etc. Overall we felt this was a good choice for several nights before our boat trip; but if you do stay, don't be in a hurry at breakfast time!

Hotel Austral Ushuaia offers a solid and convenient base for exploring the city, thanks to its central location close to restaurants, shopping, and the port. Despite being right in the heart of things, the hotel is pleasantly quiet, making it easy to rest after a day of activities. Rooms are clean and comfortable, though it’s worth noting that the annex does not include daily room cleaning, which some travelers may find inconvenient. Be cautious with the shower temperature, as it can swing from scalding hot to cold during peak usage times. The hotel provides a very basic continental breakfast, but keep in mind that it doesn’t start until 07:30—which I found too late for my planned daily excursions. Note: The hotel sits on a very steep hill, so be prepared for a challenging walk when coming up from downtown. Overall, Hotel Austral Ushuaia is a practical and well-located option, especially for travelers who value convenience and a peaceful stay, with just a few quirks to keep in mind.

This hotel was adequate for a short stay. It’s clean, conveniently located (as long as you are able to walk up a very steep hill from the harbor and shopping area). This hotel was adequate for a short stay. It’s clean, conveniently located (as long as you are able to walk up a very steep hill from the harbor and shopping area). The front desk staff was kind and helpful. Now for the down sides: The rooms are dated. They dramatically need to improve their maintenance. The lock to the room was not properly seated, and was difficult to work. The seals around the sink leaked, allowing water to flood the area whenever the faucet was used. The faucets had to be pulled REALLY tight, or they would leak. The worst part of our stay was breakfast. The food was so bad, we spent a lot of money in restaurants after the first morning rather than eat at the hotel. The fruit was canned, the croissants dense like rolls, the three available cold cereals were all sugary, the yogurt watery. While this was not the worst hotel, I would not recommend it.
