Encouraged hubby to up his ante this visit, and it was well worth my hassling him. The Metropole was surprisingly very good value for money. Our room as very dated but it was also very comfortable and as clean as it could possibly be (I’m an experienced housekeeper!). No spider webs masquerading as curtains, nor layers of dust and grime on top of the aircon unit! Puts other motels in the area to shame. The breakfast was great, incredibly good value for money, cheaper if booked with the accommodation. Great staff-guest interaction, friendly and informative. The Metropole is very handy to the train station, shopping precinct and RSL. Highly recommend staying here.

It was quaint and charming, drawing inspiration from the elegance of the 1920s. Throughout the hotel, the furnishings echo the beautiful aesthetic of that era, creating a unique and nostalgic atmosphere for guests. There are several communal rooms available, including a cosy library and a billiard room, perfect for relaxing or socialising. We asked for a room facing outside and had lovely view of the trees in the Kingsford Memorial Park. We could hear the trains passing but it did not bother us. The room was clean and the sheets fresh. The bathroom was a bit skanky, probably due to the limited ventilation. The hot water was strong. An air conditioner and fan were provided. We used neither and slept with the windows open. Only one bottle of bathroom wash was supplied, serving as body wash and shampoo. There was a kettle with tea and coffee sachets and 2 green tea bags, which were warmly appreciated. There was a small bar fridge. No plastic bottles of water were provided. The wifi was easily accessible. We did not dine for breakfast but the offerings looked decent and appealing. The staff at the hotel were lovely and welcoming throughout our stay An open-air car park is available, but it seemed to be full each time we attempted to use it. It is a terrific location with all the cafes and restaurants nearby. The train station is opposite and the bus stops and the hop-on hop-off were nearby. The Metropole ticks all the right boxes for prices, location, ambience and staff.

The Metropole is such a breath of fresh air - full of character - it's fantastic to see this lovely hotel from the 1920s kept in such good condition and providing accommodation to travellers to Katoomba for all of these years. So much more of an experience than a bland modern motel. The food is great. The location right next to the train station is very convenient (and there's off street parking) but the highlight has to be the staff. Friendly, helpful, fun and they make you feel so genuinely welcomed to their hotel. Our absolute favourite place in the Blue Mountains.

Adequate hotel, small, comfortable and very clean. It’s a 3 star hotel, so based on that it’s quite good. Due to being a heritage building, it can be a little noisy and the rooms aren’t double glazed, so noise from the central walkway can be a nuisance when people are chatting as they leave the dining room. Curtains didn’t completely block out the light, but a ceiling fan and air conditioner ensured the room was comfortable plus the extra blanket was appreciated.. There was no table in the room to have a cup of tea on, so you had to put your cup on the floor if you sat on the couch. All in one body wash and shampoo provided (so maybe pack your own) . It’s a solid 3 star hotel and they have retrofitted a lift which is handy. I thought breakfast was a little pricey, but compliments to the chef, as the baked beans and gluten free banana bread was delicious. Well situated in Katoomba, a few metres from the railway station and a 3 minute stroll to the Main Street of Katoomba. Parking at the back - bit maybe not great if you drive a low slung car as the driveway was extremely steep. Numerous little lounges available with boardgames provided so if it was raining and you were stuck indoors you would be well catered for.
