“Old World Charm”

Centrally located Hotel in the centre of town and close to railway station. Needs refurbishment but certainly has wonderful old world appeal of a bygone era. The ‘ hop on - hop off ‘ bus stop is adjacent to main hotel entrance and also a number of cafes and restaurants close by.

This is a historic building in the heart of Katoomba. There is a lovely historic elegance about the place that is well worth the visit. Bathroom amenities have been added to most of the rooms which tend to be quite spacious with high ceilings. We had two dinners at different places in the hotel and they were very good. The buffet breakfasts were very average though.

“A dame of the old school”

We loved the experience of staying at the Carrington Hotel. A comfortable colonial room, with leadlight in the windows and high ceilings. The bed was very comfortable, there were good blackout curtains on the window, and the renovated bathroom had everything we needed. It was a long way to our room from reception, via the (restored) old lift, and several short flights of stairs. But we passed many interesting historic photos and prints (Norman Lindsay ones in our corridor) on the walls and several cosy looking lounge areas. We didn't eat at the hotel, as the dining room was being renovated. And the bar was closing as we returned to the hotel after dinner, so we missed out on our nightcap. We didn't feel like a big breakfast so headed to a cafe in the main street for coffee and granola. The whole ambience of the hotel was great. Staff were friendly and welcoming, including housekeeping staff in the morning who greeted us cheerily. Parking is secure but it can be a long way from your room and via several flights of stairs, including the grand entry at the front of the hotel, so pack a small suitcase because you'll have to carry it. We intend to come back to Katoomba and will definitely stay here again.

The whole hotel is very tired (care home vibe) and needs to be refurbished. However, the bed was very comfortable, shower worked well and staff were helpful. The whole hotel is very tired (care home vibe) and needs to be refurbished. However, the bed was very comfortable, shower worked well and staff were helpful. The breakfast included all the essentials but was basic - for example processed sliced bread instead of some nice sourdough. Katoomba is accessible to all the main Blue Mountain sites and the hotel is near the trains and buses. There is onsite parking.

Beautiful old hotel with amazing features.we booked a heritage room which was as expected. The bed was two singles pushed together mattresses were both very soft the bump in the middle not so comfortable. Bathroom could have been cleaner, there was dust/grime on the back of the door which certainly looked as if it had not been cleaned in a long time, this was also evident in the shower area where collection of soap and or grime was clearly evident in the tiles, fridge in the room and also a tv - the Hotel is of a certain age and this adds to its incredible character (if you don’t know it’s back ground do a quick internet search it is fascinating) so you can expect to see some areas particularly wooden frames and paintwork which look like they are in need of some attention, the building itself is an absolute maze of corridors with all types of rooms, eg library billiards room sittings rooms etc within those the collection of art and decor is a sight to behold. It truly is an amazing building. On our first evening the restaurant was closed and it was suggested we used the Old Bank restaurant adjacent to the hotel, that was a major disappointment, the food provided was not up to any reasonable standard to be honest, in particular the Caesar Salad which to be fair when pointed out to the staff they immediately apologised and removed it from the bîll. Hotel staff were generally polite and helpful in particular Sheila at reception who was an absolute star, unfortunately one of her colleagues was not so, a refusal to assist with calling us a taxi (albeit for a very short distance) during a period of extremely inclement weather left us with an overall negative impression of what was overall an enjoyable stay. All in all if you want luxury it’s not the place for you, if you want a hotel with an abundance of character and history then it’s worth looking at.
