We stayed one night at Rydges on our way from Brisbane to Sydney. It was our first time in Port Macquarie, and we would like to return (the city was nicely set-up and quaint). Location: The hotel is situated next to the water, and from our room we could see dolphins swimming around. The hotel was quiet, even though it was next to the water pathway and restaurants. The pathway takes you on the dock, and to a neat area with painted rocks, and a park/beach. Quite walkable and we enjoyed the scenery. There were a number of restaurants around the hotel, we selected one next to the hotel, with another playground. As we waited for our food, we could watch the kids play at the playground while waiting for food. The area was nicely lit for an evening walk. The hotel is also next to a police station, so added safety :) Room: We selected a standard 2 queen bed, room. The room was very spacious and clean, with lovely decor. I liked the little couch by the window that you could sit on and watch the ocean. Pool: This is my favourite part of the hotel. It had an infinity pool, with a view of the waterway/promenade. The water was warm and shallow enough, to enjoy a relaxing swim. I could space my kids in our own section of the pool, as to not disturb other guests and be mindful of them. Breakfast: I was hoping for fresh fruit from the area, but it was mainly canned peaches/pears, cantaloupe/honeydew for the fruit options. However, there was a good selection of warm dishes, pastries and grains. The pancake machine was a hit with the kids. We applied our voucher to the breakfast, which when applied I thought was fair value for what you received. You cannot apply the voucher to parking which is a shame, but oh well. Parking: This is the only gripe I truly have. To have guaranteed parking, you have to park in the hotel's parkade, which is approx. 20$ a night. You can do street parking, but outside of the hotel it was insanely packed and you'd have to move your vehicle or rush to it in the morning. It just didn't feel quite right well given the size of the city and that it was an accommodation. It may have hit differently, if it was built into the cost. Staff: Staff were pleasant and kind to us, which makes for a welcoming environment. Value: I did think it was a little on the expensive for what we received, but not egregious. Overall: I would stay here again. The pool, location and the rooms make it a good option in Port Macquarie.
