Unfortunately there were other guests here that were very drunk and very loud and with no hotel staff available the police had to be called. The sounds travel from adjoining rooms which wasnt good. The hotel staff were very apologetic.

“Sorry, wouldn't book again”

Checking in with Hana was effortless....very helpful lady, helped us with the app needed for the keyless entry to room. Very old hotel with plenty of creaking floorboards doesn't help for a quiet night! Concerned why fire doors were propped open with fire extinguishers......surely that is against f… more

Checking in with Hana was effortless....very helpful lady, helped us with the app needed for the keyless entry to room. Very old hotel with plenty of creaking floorboards doesn't help for a quiet night! Concerned why fire doors were propped open with fire extinguishers......surely that is against fire regs?? Yes, the hotel is in a good location, close to Metro and train stations and plenty of food outlets but not the comfiest of hotels. Very cramped bathroom and quite a claustrophobic bedroom

The hotel is declared historical heritage. It gives a very warm, homy cosy feel, with narrow staircases and a slow lift as in Europe. Its reception area is only a narrow granit high table with a laptop and loungy music to welcome you, the most simple I have ever seen before. Excellent service: - Extremely well trained, professional and friendly receptionists; they agree with my comments on the hotel strengths & flaws, their opinions are transparent, honest, no non-sense, which builds trust and security for a solo traveller. - Reception closed at irregular time, perhaps as soon as all check-ins are done. - Staff very kind, prompt to help when they can. - 1% charge when paid with a credit card, like most business in Australia. - Same code for the room & entrance, or scan the app, works as a charm Room 402 Diplomat Executive King: - The harmonious brown yellow with dark brown frames feels very warm, artful and simple, very beautiful stainless spotless sofa and bedside tables. - Windows can be slightly opened by winding the knob to bring in some air, but also noise from the street. With window closed, it is very very quiet in spite of all the night activities that go on till very late. - Very good king size bed, huge TV including generous channels, free Netflix, etc. Living room sofa can open up to a double bed. - Comfortable for one occupant with 1 suitcase and 1 carry on, but more than one will be too tight. However, its beautiful design in old cosy style is often dysfunctional: no power outlet for the kettle area, so bring the kettle to plug by the bed side. Coffee & tea bags are provided, well appreciated. - Room 402 has no desk to work on, not suitable for work travel. - No place to display personal items (make up things) in the bathroom. Bottles of hair products in the shower stall cannot be glued to the wall, and lie on the floor of the shower, very unhygienic. - Shower door leaks; why not install a silicone strip where the glass door does not meet the floor ?! - A cockroach visited me; reception said they have some during rainy seasons, but it has not rained during my visit ! The cleaning lady just put a towel over the drain of the shower stall and in the middle of the wash area, that was it. Surrounding area: - 22$ by train from the airport to the Hotel Diplomat at Kings Cross Railway Station, 100 m away - Very safe. The charm of lively small shops, family eateries contrasts with big international American chains. Kebab shop across the street opens till 3:00 am. - It is the party guests who talk and laugh loundly, slam doors on Saturday night till 3:00 am. I dare not knock on their door to beg for quietness as they are too many of them in the room next door. During the night, there was no reception staff, no one to signal this to. Should there be a fight, I can only call the police ! The group checked out the next day before 10:00 am, very noisy again, so my night was too short, totally disrupted, I had to rest in the room all day. Management knows about this as the hotel is located in a clubbing area but would not penalise those guests to compensate the disturbed guests. You are warned. Nonetheless, I liked this hotel and its location so much that I have extended my stay for 2 more days
