“Fantastic room and amazing service at the Living Room. Avoid level 29 for evening drinks”

We were in a superior guest room, larger guest room city view. We have water views at home and preferred the bigger room than the view. We loved the room… no complaints at all. We were in a superior guest room, larger guest room city view. We have water views at home and preferred the bigger room than the view. We loved the room… no complaints at all. Spacious, quiet, blockout blinds, plenty of pillows, A steamer AND an iron! We went as a couple and didn’t swim or use the spa. We preferred the living room on floor 1 to level 29/30. Staff were friendlier, water provided and snacks were given. In 29 we were told to order via QR CODE and it didn’t work, I asked to order in person but after a few tries with my phone the staff member got the QR code to work and she said now you can order. It was about 5:15 pm. Everything we tried to order was not available until 10:30 am … I went back AGAIN to speak to staff and they said the cocktails weren’t available yet but they could make it…. The drinks finally came and my watermelon drink had a solid ice cube that was the height of the glass and 2cm by 2 cm … very little room for liquid… we left that venue… labelled it as too hard.. when you are paying $26/$28 a cocktail you don’t expect to be sent away twice when trying to order,, we decided to go to THE LIVING ROOM or lobby bar. OMG what a difference… staff were attentive, didn’t treat us as annoyances…. We were given water and it was refilled regularly. No issues with the drinks or service, not a QR code to be seen - we did turn to beer and wine after the ginormous ice cube issue….AND they gave you free snacks AND it had a better view… so avoid 29/30. BREAKFAST is the best breakfast I’ve had in SYDNEY….OUTSTANDING. It was our second stay and we will be back but won’t waste our time on 29/30 where they think taking orders is an annoyance to their day… very poor, otherwise we would have rated our stay as 5.

“So close yet so far - great hotel, but the logistics are letting this hotel down big time”

Recently I stayed at the W hotel so that attending theatre show would not require a rushing into town, finding a car-park and then having to drive back home late a night. I booked a nice room with check in at 3pm and late check out at 4pm. However when we arrived at 5.45pm the room was not ready - Given we had our show starting at 6.45, I reminded the staff that I could not wait 30 minutes and after some delay (the check-in operator went to check with her supervisor and left me standing for 15 minutes), a room was made available. After that initial hurdle, the breakfast experience the next morning was nothing but yet another logistical failure. All guest were ushered to the 5th floor for a "break-fast" check-in due to the "increased occupancy rates" over the weekend. So after waiting 10 minutes in line to "check-in" we ended up waiting another 15 minutes, with one of those electronic beepers, before we were seated in the third floor restaurant. Nothing wrong with the food at the restaurant, but had it taken just a little longer I would have just for gone my included breakfast and gone down to any of the restaurants on the darling harbour waterfront for breakfast. Finally unless you are very familiar with electronic switches for lights and curtain blinds you will find that you will spend some time figuring out how to turn on/of the lights and or close / open the blinds - no rhyme nor reasons as to how the buttons worked or should have worked in our room.

Short family trip to Sydney. Great location to watch the Saturday night fireworks at Darling Harbour. Hotel and rooms are well presented. Staff are friendly. Unfortunately, we had a couple of issues during our stay. All the lighting is controlled by pushbutton switches, not traditional mechanical switches. The lighting in the bathroom worked the first night, but after that the lights would only turn on if we pressed the "welcome" button at the entry, which would turn on all the lights in the room and open the blinds. There was a weird humming noise (sounded like vacuuming) we could hear on and off throughout the nights, as well as banging through the first night. We reported it but only received a generic response, and continued to hear the hum throughout our stay. Might have been something near our room (room 1240). Another disappointing thing was the lack of attention given to our room - for some reason we missed having our room serviced after the first day, I had to ask to have our coffee etc re-stocked. After the second night we requested our room to be serviced while we were out for the day. Returning after our day, the room was still not attended. We requested again, and thankfully it was done while we were out in the afternoon/evening. The room was made up, but looked extremely rushed, possibly they were understaffed for the duration of our stay. Overall the W Sydney was ok, the best thing was the location. We were just disappointed with our experience for a hotel at this price point.
