My take on Daydream Island: 7/10 We were after a relaxing family getaway, and we definitely got that. Mother Nature was beautiful, and all the wildlife was amazing to see and interact with. Was the place perfect? Definitely not. There are a lot of maintenance issues and some general confusion among some of the staff. Breakfast was another big letdown. The toast, scrambled eggs, pastries, and fruit were the only edible items on the buffet. The restaurants, however, were amazing. We had the best Asian dinners we have had in a long time, and the staff at the restaurants were very friendly and professional. Pools and the daily activities were fantastic. Izzy and I enjoyed meditation and yoga most mornings, and the rainforest walk was a beautiful way to start the morning. Izzy and I had a few hours in the day spa, and the staff were lovely, and it was a very positive experience for us both. "Best day ever," Izzy said. The boys did a fishing tour operated by a mainland company. The tour was great, and the boys caught some wonderful fish. The only letdown was the lack of communication between the resort, the tour company, and ourselves, but we managed to work it out. We were promised that any fish they caught, we could have the restaurant cook it up for us for dinner (for $35) on our return. This didn't go to plan, but hubby sorted it, and our fish (cleaned by the tour company) was taken to the restaurant for dinner. The fish was amazing and cooked well. We had to cancel some of the other items we had ordered for dinner as it was not explained to us (staff didn't know) how our fish would come out. It came out with the fish, a bowl of chips, a bowl of salad, and a bowl of peas, all yummy, so we were able to cancel our mains and ordered some more sides to go with it. Everything was very yummy, and we had dessert and a few cheeky drinks. We did get a bit of a shock when they were having trouble working out our bill at the end of the night. When we finally got it, it came to over $400, and then we were told they charged us $140 ($35 per person for 2 adults and 2 kids) to cook our fish (the fish was already cleaned and ready to go by the tour company). It was a bit hard to believe as their fish and chip meal was only $30, but we had a lovely dinner, so we paid and left. The bars and swim-up bars were great. The cocktails changed at the different bars, so it was nice to try different drinks. We also got to do a ray tour and feed the rays. That was great fun, and we learned some new fun facts. Our room had some major maintenance issues and a weird smell when you walked in, but overall it had a great view, a spa bath, and was nice and quiet. We had paid for a deluxe upgraded room. We probably would have just gotten a standard room if we had known of the issues with the rooms and the yard maintenance outside the room. We didn't get to snorkel or use the water sports as the wind was too strong, and the weather was not the best. Would I race back to Daydream Island in a hurry? Probably not, but we created some wonderful family memories and are definitely leaving more relaxed, so you can't ask for much more.

I just wanted to take a moment to share my thoughts about our recent stay at Daydream Island. We feel so lucky to have the opportunity to experience the beauty of its nature! The resort has so much potential! While there are a few areas that could use some TLC, I believe they could easily be updated with a little attention. I also noticed a lovely spot at the back that could be transformed into a couples-only or adults-only area, which would offer a nice balance for everyone. As for the restaurant, it was a bit hit or miss. I think it would really benefit from having the café downstairs open all the time, so visitors can enjoy coffee and light bites whenever they want. It seems a bit odd to have several bars focused on alcohol, especially with kids around; it would be great to have more non-alcoholic options available without having to go to the main bar. Overall, the staff were very friendly and helpful! With a few enhancements, such as advertising daily activities on the TV, it would really elevate the experience for everyone on the island.

“Daydream Island Living Reef Snorkel”

Daydream Island is a great family friendly island in the Whitsundays. We came for the Living Reef Snorkelling experience.

Better off visiting Hamilton island instead of Day Dream Island. Day Dream Island is very run down, a lot of things are broken are can’t be used. There were not many activities for our young kids to do. Things have limited opening hours including restaurants and the one convenience shop. The pools are great and the living reef is great. We did the ray feeding with our son and enjoyed it. We also enjoyed the trivia. But not sure why the underwater aquarium has limited viewing times. It should be open early at 8am for kids to go see after breakfast. The food is very limited and at one point they ran out of many items including white bread. Buffet breakfast is average and same options everyday. The staff just seem to not care very much as I feel they are dealing with peoples complaints all the time. We tried talking to management about our concerns but they didn’t have much to say. There is no beach section for kids to play on as it’s all washed up coral. There was only one catamaran to use. The only food you can buy on the other side of the island is kangaroo food. It feels deserted over on that side. Just not worth the visit, but if you do go 5 days is more than enough. Hamilton island has everything and more so would recommend there instead.
