“Needs improvement”

We spent 3 nights in this hotel and felt that they need to up their game. The rooms are decorated well but need to have carpets cleaned or replaced. We spent 3 nights in this hotel and felt that they need to up their game. The rooms are decorated well but need to have carpets cleaned or replaced. We booked a deluxe king through Expedia (to use up some credit card points), so as expected they put us right across from the elevators and the deluxe king room had no coffee pot. I called the front desk and they brought one up. Ok Fine, but by the next afternoon we discovered they were renovating the room next door - so a fair amount of noise just as we had come home to have a quick nap/refresh after our lengthy travels. The room had not been made up. They did come by that night while we were out to dinner and made our bed and gave us some fresh towels. Next day, the smell from the renovation is strong from a chemical, so we stop at the front desk and tell them that the smell is strong and that we had needed our room to be made up properly. Return back to hotel and the room is not made up, but the smell is better- they must have stopped using whatever chemical they had used that morning. We had to call housekeeping to get toilet paper! The front desk staff were pleasant, but overall I would not give this hotel a high rating

This is a beautiful historic hotel but right now it's in the last days before it will be taken over by Kimpton and rebranded, so it is a little sad. This is a beautiful historic hotel but right now it's in the last days before it will be taken over by Kimpton and rebranded, so it is a little sad. Yes it is looking a little tired so the rebrand will help it. I have stayed here a few times before and it was a bit sad to see the hotel less busy and breakfast super quiet (choices felt a bit lackluster too). Staff still tried their best, especially the woman bringing over room service (arancini and fries, both yummy) but it does feel like the last days of a waning icon.
