I had some apprehensions about staying in a hotel that is part of a cricket stadium but as soon as we arrived that concern immediately dissipated. The Oval Hotel is a beautiful hotel and the location is actually excellent. The hotel is part of the Eastern side of the Oval (or cricket stadium) just off King William Road. We were easily able to park our car directly under the reception and take the elevator straight up to the reception on Level 3. It was impressive upon arrival - a very modern and well appointed hotel with a great outlook over the park lands. The room was great. Very modern, sound proofed, well appointed, luxury amenities and one of the most comfortable beds I can recall. Natural woolen carpet is not something you will see often in a hotel but speaks to the quality of the fixtures. Again, our room had a beautiful outlook out the window over the park lands. Our favourite feature of the hotel was access to the Next Gen gym. There is no gym onsite at the hotel. Instead, you get free access to a full commercial recreation centre with swimming pools, tennis courts and a very large gym about 300 metres down the road and part of the stadium complex. This is the best 'hotel gym' I've ever used. We had dinner at the hotel restaurant one night and as far a hotel restaurants go, it was pretty good. The wine list is excellent as well as the view from the restaurant over the Oval. There is no buffet breakfast, it's a la carte and was high quality. Adelaide CBD is walkable from the hotel with loads of eating options. What we discovered was that buses come very close to the hotel and in Adelaide you don't need to buy bus tickets - you can just use your contactless credit card when getting on the bus. That became the easiest way to get in and out of the CBD area. We left the car in the parking lot. The next time I return to Adelaide, the Oval Hotel will be my first preference.

What a lovely hotel. A contemporary building that wraps around and is integrated with the Adelaide Oval Stadium. Just adds another dimension to The Oval experience or is it the other way around. They just do it so nicely. An easy, personalised and smooth check-in is followed by a welcome glass of bubbles or still wine. A simple gesture, and probably not that expensive for the hotel, that so effectively transitions you into the full hotel experience. Just sitting in a comfortable lounge, with glass in hand, overlooking the parklands, an imposing bridge and city traffic. How good? Our suite, again overlooking the parklands and an imposing cathedral, was immaculate. We quickly learnt that it was technology dense, with just about everything managed from screens. It was all quite intuitive though. Fortunately, the bathroom still retained a wall switch, a very contemporary one though. Loved the suite. It was very clean and had plenty of room for storage. Had everything one could ever need including plenty of switches, plenty of lights and adequate USB points. The king bed was comfortable and had quality linen. The bathroom was spacious and well presented. The walk-in rain shower was beautiful. Textured tiling is used throughout the bathroom including on the floor. There’s almost no chance of slipping on a wet floor. The bathroom had everything except a power point. It had a hairdryer but nowhere in the bathroom to plug it in. It wasn’t cordless or rechargeable. Also made it hard to have a shave in the morning. Probably a good reason. Maybe it’s something to do with water and electricity not mixing well. We had a lovely walk along the River Torrens followed by a delightful dinner in the dining room looking over The Oval grass as the curator and ground staff worked under lights removing the drop-in pitch as they prepared the oval for the AFL football season. This is not a large faceless multi-storey city hotel with saunas, hot tubs, gyms and swimming pools. It’s a lovely hotel experience just a little way out of the hurly burly and chaos of the inner city. To be fair, guests do have free access to spa, pool and gym facilities right next door at the Next Gen Health & Lifestyle Club. Try the Oval Hotel. We did.

“Nice but not 5 star”

I stayed 3 nights at the Oval Hotel for work. I emailed ahead to ask to reserve their Cloud9 hair straightener. No problems there but good to know they take a $200 deposit. I stayed 3 nights at the Oval Hotel for work. I emailed ahead to ask to reserve their Cloud9 hair straightener. No problems there but good to know they take a $200 deposit. I also asked ahead of time to not have decorative pillows on the bed. They noted the request but they didn't do as asked. Room service was disappointing. I had a burger that was undercooked and served in a paper bag. No plate or cutlery despite the decent price tag and the claim of it being a 5-star hotel. I decided to eat out or get Uber Eats after that. The included a la carte breakfast was nice but it was a shame this could only be enjoyed in the restaurant. No option to have it in the room. The bed was comfortable. Shame they don't use proper doona covers for hygiene. The location is good. About 10 min walk to the convention centre and 20 min walk to rundle mall (Coles and Woollies). You can earn $10/day in food/beverage credits for not using housekeeping. Service was lacking, e.g. there are limited amenities in the room and you have to request things like robes, slippers, vanity kit, etc. I did this but was still waiting over an hour later so had to ask again. I would stay here again but they could make a few improvements for it to be truly 5 star.
