4.5 stars! Picked this hotel based on proximity to Spence street station - literally across the road - multiple tram stops within 10 steps. Easy check in and I asked for a room at the back (after reading reviews complaining about the noise) room 119 compact looking out onto air con compressors - but totally quiet and slept well. The room was very compact - had to shimmy around the door to close in for the toilet/shower - but shower had good water pressure and was a walk in (a must these days), large refillable shampoo/conditioner/hand wash were provided. The sink was in the main part of the room. Individual air con enabled me to dictate the room temperature. Tea and coffee and full cream milk provided in fridge (skim provided on request). The breakfast cost $28 if you booked it the night before - for buffet of hot and cold options this is pretty good in Melbourne. I think this is an exceptional hotel for a short stay 1-2 nights and I will definitely be coming back for my next girls trip into the city - would definitely recommend

This rather iconic building is situated in the heart of Melbourne opposite the busy Southern Cross station and within the free tram zone with easy access to the river and south bank so no complaints on location. What let this hotel down was that it is rather souless. When we arrived we were told we had been upgraded which was a good start but our suite situated on the second floor whilst large was dull, dark and to be honest rather dreary and the view - well we didn't really get one - it was a wall. So in a trip that covered six weeks and numerous places to stay I am afraid this one came out bottom. I will though praise it its policy to reward the guests with $10 dollars at the bar if you opted not to have your room cleaned. Two nights and a free round later everyone's happy. Only come across this initiative in one other hotel - more should follow.

3.5 Stars, rounding down. The positives is it's at a great location near Southern Cross Station and a number of eateries nearby. The King Premiere room I had was clean, and very quiet. I couldn't hear any outside noise but I was toward the back and up on floor 5. I loathe that the King Bed was infact two singles shoved together, which came apart easily - dipping in the middle - meaning you had no way of stretching out, or using the 'middle' of a big bed, and instead needed to balance yourself on one side, meaning I technically slept on a single bed since there was no way to utilise both at once. I felt like a child lol. I also found the bed was verrrry soft and squishy - plus easily moved about. Buffet Breakfast was excellent, great usual English fry-up hot foods, plus melon, muesli, cereal, pastries and juice. Some staff could be friendlier. I tried to strike up conversation a few times and got nothing, sorry I tried! But that seemed to be an overall Melbournian thing. I had room service one night, a little expensive especially for the cheesecake (28 Dollars!) which didn't come with ice cream like it stated, and the Sprite I ordered was infact a soda water. I had intended to tell the front staff when I checked out, but they weren't interested and didn't even ask about my stay. I probably wouldn't come back here when there's so many options in this area of town.

We've stayed here several times. Bit disappointed this time. Dirty windows, small balcony outside covered in dead leaves,, only one spare pillow in the room, in room phone not working so had to use my mobile phone to contact the hotel request another. Was informed phone replacement not possible. … more

We've stayed here several times. Bit disappointed this time. Dirty windows, small balcony outside covered in dead leaves,, only one spare pillow in the room, in room phone not working so had to use my mobile phone to contact the hotel request another. Was informed phone replacement not possible. A bit disappointing for $255 The hotel is very handy for Southern Cross station but others are too.
