Just back from a 10-day trip to Melbourne. Last stay was back in 2009 We needed a base while we attend to some family matters and IBIS served our purpose well. Clean, comfortable but no frill accommodation in a 1-bedroom apartment. Walking distance of 3 mins to the famous QV Market satisfied our catering needs. Staff helpful in a busy and popular hotel, housekeeping staff cleaned our rooms every two days also did a great job. Temp in room can be a bit cold in winter but we managed OK. Would be nice if kitchenette is equipped with more basic utensils and pots and pan instead of just a fry pan to cook with. Suggestions:-Bring kitchen scissors, serving thongs and kitchen tea towels if you are planning a longer stay

“Not for us”

A tired Hotel which is an urgent need of an update. The rooms are only cleaned every two days. We were not told this and returned late to find the room had not been cleaned and we had to make our own bed. We are happy to miss daily cleaning for environmental reasons but expect to be advised of this… more

A tired Hotel which is an urgent need of an update. The rooms are only cleaned every two days. We were not told this and returned late to find the room had not been cleaned and we had to make our own bed. We are happy to miss daily cleaning for environmental reasons but expect to be advised of this in advance. The staff were friendly but said they could do nothing about late evening room cleaning. The Hotel is near Victoria Market. It is in a student area with lots of basic take aways with a longer walk in order to get a choice of restaurants.

The Ibis Melbourne Hotel and Apartments on Victoria Street is a solid 3-star choice for those prioritizing space and location over meticulous service. Its greatest strength is the room size; the accommodations and bathrooms are notably more spacious than your typical city-center Ibis, offering plenty of breathing room. It is also perfectly positioned within easy walking distance of Bourke and Flinders Streets. However, the experience was hindered by under-par housekeeping. While the basics like bed-making and towel swaps were handled, the room wasn't thoroughly cleaned and essential supplies weren't fully replenished. It’s a decent, well-located option, provided you don't mind a "bare-minimum" approach to daily room maintenance.

Unfortunately wasn’t a lot of choice available in Melbourne CBD when I booked because of Air Show and Flower Show on at same time. On arrival staff were very pleasant however one member was obviously new and receiving instructions-not a problem- however did not receive any instructions on parking, just told fee is $40/day. Very limited signage in alleyway on way to park but finally found a button and parked my car. Again limited signage but discovered no lift and therefore had to carry luggage up two flights-not so easy when you are in your 70s. Apartment very dark, and on opening curtains was looking directly into a busy office in building next door. Apartment is spacious however big problems with built in ceiling air conditioner which does not work properly especially during the night when it would mysteriously jump up a few degrees above my setting. Kitchen supplies very basic. Bed was comfortable and linen and towels good. Very close to Victorian Market and an abundance of Asian restaurants everywhere. Close to public transport for short trip to CBD. Apparently breakfast restaurant shown in pictures is being renovated and breakfast is in two make shift rooms which look like a school cafeteria. Food basic cereal, juices, tea, coffee. Scrambled eggs, sausages, hash browns, bacon all just luke warm. Four ancient toasters available if you would like toast. One good appliance was the pancake machine. Push a button and there are 2 fresh pancakes. So 2 nights (1 and a half days) $500 + $80 parking + $29 breakfast. lesson learnt- look well ahead before booking and read reviews.
