The location is convenient and central, can get around the CBD easily. Nice modern rooms and bathroom, but a bit small in size even when we upgraded. The only thing I’m disappointed by is that I booked this hotel for heated indoor pool, but the glass still lets so much cold air in that my baby was freezing. Other than that, lovely staff and good food too.

We stay in Melbourne several times a year, whether transiting between the train station and the airport, or attending sporting events or theatre. We normally stay at the Savoy next door, but we thought we'd give this hotel a chance after discovering that it belonged to the Accor group, of which we are members. This is a relatively new hotel in a very convenient location. We booked a deluxe king room but received an unexpected upgrade and stayed in a superior suite, which was huge. By definition, a suite has a separate bedroom, but the only thing separating the bed from the lounge was a sideboard and a flimsy see-through half height fence! The bathroom was enormous and to be frank, a waste of space. It echoed and the lighting was barely adequate for shaving, looking into a mirror set too far back. The rain head shower was great, however. Be aware that the rooms top out on the 6th floor, so street noise is likely, even if your room does not directly face the busy Spencer Street. The bedding was fantastic as was the blackout window dressings which enabled a much-needed sleep-in after the overnight police sirens dissipated. But overall, despite very comfortable furnishings, the room just felt a bit soulless. Our package included breakfast and we opted for custom made omelets instead of helping ourselves to the buffet, so I can't really comment on the standard inclusions. Maybe next time. The otherwise comfortable chairs have short legs and we weren't the only ones to mutter that it felt like the tables were awkwardly high, making us feel like midgets! I'd hate to have an evening meal there. We will stay here again, hopefully in a more standard room, to give it a second chance. Personally, I'd rather keep staying at the Savoy next door, despite its smaller rooms and tepid breakfasts. It is cute and cozy. Movenpick needs to do something special to gain our loyalty.

Decided to give the hotel a second chance after my last stay a few years back which was a mixed experience. Unfortunately it was once again a mixed experience. Rooms are large with the required amenities, except for hangers for the open-air hanging space which you have to call housekeeping to obtain. Foxtel channels were not available throughout my stay - with no vision but the shows name and short descriptions were live - most strange. It also took three attempts to raise the issue only to be told on the last occasion 'the providers were investigating'. Breakfast offerings were pretty basic with not many western options available. After a couple of mixed experiences I guess I won't be back soon.
