Our son and his fiance had booked tickets for the four of us to the "Late Night Orchestra: Back to ours" concert at Hamer Hall. They were staying at the Langham but we enjoyed our previous stays at Quay West Sydney and at Quay West Melbourne so much that we booked a 3-bedroom apartment there. These bigger apartments are very spacious with a large kitchen, lounge and dining room, an ensuited main bedroom. The two other bedrooms share a separate bathroom. There is plenty of wardrobe and storage space as well as a laundry. A family could live quite comfortably in these apartments and it appears that some do. We had apartment 1706 which is at the end of the hall and has sweeping views of the river and the city. From its 3 balconies, you can view from the Eureka Tower right around to Federation Square. Despite being across the river from Flinders Street Station, the rooms are very quiet. Because of its situation on Southbank, there was no traffic noise so we both slept exceptionally well. Parking is available just next door for $46 a day. A buffet breakfast in the hotel restaurant was included in our rate but we're not big breakfast people and so slept in instead. We had planned on having a late dinner after the concert and assumed that there would be several options nearby but that wasn't the case. Whilst a lot of restaurants advised that they were open "until late" on a Friday, most closed before 10pm (which is when the concert finished). Gimlet, a decent walk from Hamer Hall, could offer us a supper booking from 11.30pm and Cumulus Inc closes at 11pm. There was nothing else that was reasonably close and, surprisingly, nothing in the Crown casino precinct. The Langham's Bar closes at 11pm and Quay West's room service was long closed by 10pm. So, we picked up a heap of sushi etc from Ritchies at Mt Eliza on the way into the city and the four of us enjoyed a sumptuous dinner and drinks at our dining table at the hotel with a great view over the river. Our son and his fiance left us at around 2am to walk back to the Langham after a great night out.
