A few years ago this was a popular tour of the lighthouse with accommodation in two buildings and a museum. All of the buildings are still there, but there is no tour of the lighthouse, no accommodation anymore. Several of the buildings are empty and there is a museum which you can tour on your own. This is not why you should visit Cape Schanck. You need to walk down the steps to the water. It is a few hundred steps, but it has spectacular views from the top and many places to explore at the bottom. There are also two fantastic walks. One begins at the Fingal Beach Parking lot. You walk along the cliff edge to Cape Schanck and it is a lovely hour walk each way with spectacular cliff views. You need to be reasonably fit. The other walk is from Cape Schanck to Bushrangers Bay. This two is a beautiful cliff edge walk and takes about an hour each way. Bushrangers Bay has spectacular beaches similar to the beaches at Wilson's Prom. The path for both walks is good but watch out for snakes. My wife nearly stepped on a Tiger Snake last year. If you hear birds above making a fuss, there may be a snake on the ground nearby. If you are unfit, you may want to walk 200 metres to the top of the lookout to Cape Schanck. If you are fit you may want to park at Fingal Beach and walk all the way to Bushrangers Bay and back or have a car meet you. There is plenty of free parking, picnic tables, seats for resting and clean bathrooms. There was a kiosk at Cape Schanck a few years ago, but sadly it is gone. Bring a picnic if you like or a barbecue. There is a great barbecue at Fingal Beach and it says there is a barbecue at Cape Schanck but I haven't seen it. Hopefully I have earned a helpful tick from you. Enjoy your day there and find accommodation somewhere else.

Several larger accommodation cottages on offer but we choose 'The Inspectors Room'. A small but adequate old style room with bathroom containing large shower & separate small 'kitchen in the Cupboard ' with Microwave & Tea & Coffee making plus toaster. This is a historic Property so don't expect the Ritz, but for those wanting to get away from it all and enjoy the coastal scenery & nature this is lovely. Private restricted entry to light house area and cottages makes it Peaceful, safe & Unique stay. Tours of Lighthouse & Museum available. Walks galore. Lighthouse is amazing especially at night. Small Kiosk open 10-4pm very short walk away. Down side.(not for us) ..no shops. Nearest supermarket and Cafes Rosebud or Flinders about 20mins drive each way. Other cottages have kitchen etc. No Phone reception or Wi Fi...emergency phone on property. Had to walk up to lookout for phone reception...good laugh.... I recommend that you arrive before 4pm as you pick up keys from kiosk for gate and entry. Can be a bit of a run around after that as no one at property. Had really lovely stay. Would stay again.

“Unique accommodation near mineral springs”

This accommodation is perfect for those who love some history and quirky place to stay. There was something extremely beautiful about being in the light station at sunset sunrise. It's quite near the Mornington peninsula hot springs which we frequented.

Just an overnight stay but once we got in there it was quite enjoyable. Comfy, old cottage, but it's the views and the peace you come for. Two problems on the night, one being the the shower head was broken (Museum cottage) and unusable. The other was getting the key to the place. The key is in a lock box that requires a four digit code to release the key. It didn't work. Despite it being mid-afternoon, there was no one available to contact. There was a phone in the key box but it only direct dialled to a 'no answer'. Because there is no mobile service, we had to drive 5 k to get service to search web pages and other numbers. Finally contact someone and get a second code. That didn't work. Drive back to mobile service to then finally get a master code. Way too unresponsive a sytem to be depending on.
