Our second Summer at the Berger Sporthotel and it was just as good as last year. We were warmly welcomed on arrival by Laura and Mike who were very friendly and helpful at Reception. Frau Berger shared her love and passion for the hotel and its family history . We very much enjoyed the food and Wilkin's friendly service in the restaurant . The hotel still has its traditional charm which we appreciated. Being in the centre of town, buses and cable cars were most convenient. The Wednesday weekly entertainer showed off his musical talent...a good evening. We had a spacious bedroom with balcony overlooking the main street. The safe was useful. The included Tui packed lunch and afternoon coffee/cake one time weekly was a nice touch. We hope to return again. Smith family.

“Warm and Traditional”

Our two week stay at the Bergers Sport Hotel in Salbaach is sadly coming to an end. It has been a genuinely memorable experience. The room we are staying in (701 in the annex) is spacious and clean, and has been diligently attended to daily by the friendliest of cleaners. Infact, the entire staff team have been welcoming, engaging and charming throughout our time here and are a credit to their profession. The proprietor, Mrs Berger is a lovely lady who has dedicated her life to continuing the legacy of this charming family run hotel. She has been passionate about sharing the history of the property, which inturn reflects her personal investment with impressive character. Her cute little dog 'Lucky' is not only a delightful presence, but also something of a mascot! The hotel couldn't be better situated in the centre of Salbaach, with easy access to the cable cars and public transport. The whole area resonates a breathtaking beauty which is difficult to match. The locals are polite and helpful, and continue to demonstrate a pride in their beautiful country which is well deserved. We always leave Austria with a sense that it is how things should be. We are hoping to return in the future.

We are currently staying, and having a lovely time at this wonderfully traditional hotel. The staff make this place feel like you are staying in family surroundings. Mrs Berger is wonderful to chat with and learning the history and traditions has been really insightful. Her little dog Lucky is a very cute little fella. We were met warmly by Mike and Laura who made sure we were well taken care off. They are very approachable and helpful. This theme runs throughout the staff team, all are thoughtful, friendly and hard working. We have the best singing , dancing waiter who lights up the dining room. The food has been excellent and we have been well catered for as vegetarians. There is something for all tastes. Location could not be better for the gondolas, bus stop and the centre of the village. The rooms are traditional in keeping with the hotel , clean and tasteful. The beds are super comfortable and hot water a plenty. We hope to return in the future and know we will enjoy the rest of our holiday.

“A Great Budget Friendlier Option”

We chose Berger Sports Hotel on the basis that it was one of the cheaper options offering the Joker Card. Begining with the negatives, the hotel is a little dated, there is a whiff of tobacco as you enter the main building, and our annexe room was quite basic and very stuffy at night. However, we stayed during the heat wave where temperatures well exceded what Austria would typically experience in July, so it is unfair to judge the the lack of air con or room fan in this context as you probably wouldn't normally need them. Now the positives - and there are plenty! The staff are excellent, especially Mike on reception and Jordana/Gordona? who served us in the restuarant. Both were very friendly, attentive and Mike helped us plan our day out to Salzburg. So 5/5 for staff. The food is also very good (we were half board), with your usual mix of cereal, pastries, fruit, egg, bacon and sausages for breakfast. The evening meal offered a choice of meat, fish or vegetarian dishes and all were excellent. Food 4/5 as the restuarant room itself was quite basic and again, quite stuffy. The location was on the main square, and there was some live music one night which went on until around 10:30 and sometimes we heard some late revellers on their return but nothing to really bother us. One of the cable car lifts is a 2 minute walk away. So 4/5 location. The Joker and mobility cards were included and they were fantastic, allowing us to access two cable cars from Saalbach, the local bus service, the train to Salzburg and also Werfen castle where they filmed Where Eagles Dare - well worth a visit! The hotel also has a nice small indoor pool and relaxing room with sunbeds, and we were often the only ones using these facilities. So overall, if you're looking for accommodation on the more budget friendly side and are prepared to accept accomodation that's a bit basic and dated, I would recommend. If you want more polish then maybe pay the extra, as long as you get the Joker card included!
