We loved the Sport & Spa Hotel Strass and will definitely return. The location is perfect, right next door to the Penken cable car which is the main one that goes up the mountain. It's a super efficient cable car and opens early so it was very quick and painless to get to, and no queues (though we were third week of March so I guess a bit out of season). Also close to shops, restaurants and bars (the Ice bar is within the hotel though we preferred the Bruck n Stadl which was only a short walk away once the ski boots are off, and there are several lively ones on the mountain before you take the cable back down). It seems there is an older and a newer side to the hotel, and booking through Crystal it was confusing and seemed like two hotels but it really is all one and location -wise it makes no difference, and in our party some chose the more expensive side with the nicer rooms and others the less expensive side... but I was in the less expensive side and the room was absolutely fine - good size, clean, comfortable, quiet, plenty of hanging/cupboard space.. the others loved their posher rooms though so either part works, and either gives you access to the extensive spa facilities, and you are all in the same restaurant for meals (with our party placed on one table together even though we were on the different sides of the hotel). The spa has different sections for those who want to do it Austrian style without swim suits, and those who are more British about it or have kids. There's also table tennis and billiards. Breakfast was good and plentiful with lots of options, and the very helpful staff offer various additional cooked eggs. We were half board and dinner was plentiful and fine if not the best ever. A nice salad bar to start every meal with and soup too, so it's a four course dinner and we certainly didn't go hungry! Be warned you pay extra for a ski locker, but it is all very roomy and uncrowded and the boots get warmed while they are in the locker. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. It was our first time in Mayrhofen and we loved the resort. Some great skiing with the added bonus of the (spectacular) glacier (half an hour or so in a bus away and included in the area lift pass), beautiful scenery, well pisted runs, lots of pretty restaurants and bars. You have to know in advance that the skiing is all up the mountain, so don't be alarmed if there's no snow in the (low) resort, and it doesn't matter because of the Penken being so efficient. Thank you to all the staff at the hotel for such a lovely week.

Another fab week at the most central hotel in M town; superb staff. many familiar faces, same high standard of food and blue skies all week long! Another fab week at the most central hotel in M town; superb staff. many familiar faces, same high standard of food and blue skies all week long! The lounge is quieter than it used to be, but this suited us; we are too old for apres ski until the witching hour! Enjoyed watching Premier league and drinking Dunkel bier. Tried out the pizzeria and Asian restaurant - both excellent additions to the hotel. But they get busy so would recommend booking in advance if it's high season, or eating early evening. New boot room security is another welcome addition. Only complaint is we left really early and missed the breakfast buffet. We didn't realise that we should've told the reception who would've prepared a packed breakfast for us. Next time!

“Mayrhofen.. Fantastic Ski holiday”

I stayed at the Strauss hotel as a solo skier I had a fantastic time … Grest location The solo room was clean , yes it could do with modernisation… but a lovely bed and a nice hot shower .. I believe your room is to sleep and shower , if your in there any longer there’s something wrong ! I wax… more

I believe your room is to sleep and shower , if your in there any longer there’s something wrong ! I wax above the ice bar which caused abit of noise until 2100… The breakfast was typical continental..it done the job . The spa was lovely , a nice small pool Steam room and sauna and a wellness suite Great after a days skiing The best bit is Stocky the ski guide He will take you all over the valley skiing There’s a lot more here than the Penkenbahn area .. I have to say a big Thank you to Stocky for making my ski holiday one the best I’ve had in a while A great man … your a legend

I have been going to the Strass Hotel in Mayrhofen for years and honestly I should have written this review way sooner. Every time I get there it just feels like coming home. The staff are genuinely friendly, the rooms are spacious and comfortable, and the breakfast has everything you need before heading up the mountain. The spa is a big plus. There is a pool, multiple saunas and plenty of space to relax. After a full day on the slopes this is exactly what you want. The location is hard to beat. It is right next to a major gondola and in the middle of the lively center, so everything is within walking distance. If I have to mention one small thing, it can get a bit lively at night because of the central location, but for me that is part of the atmosphere. Or you could just ask for a room that is not directly located at the street, if you aren't really in to hearing people having fun after the après ski... If you are going to Mayrhofen, definitely check this place out. For the price there is really no reason not to. I have already booked my next trip.
