“Great location, comfortable, clean and good breakfast”

A great location, only a few minutes walk from the town centre and right next to the gondola for access to the Kitzbuehelerhorn. The Sonne is clean and comfortable, the staff are friendly and welcoming and the breakfast is just what you need to set you up for a day walking

“Cozy quaint and typically Austrian Gasthaus”

Very quite. Very cozy. Very traditional. They do not accept Amex. The breakfast is good but nothing special. It suit my purposes and I would stay there again because it suited my needs. Not ideal for families and not ideal if you are looking for larger rooms

I read the other reviews before booking and they were all fair and accurate. Good recommendation to take your own English tea ;) lovely breakfast to set you up for the day. we had a triple room for us and young son. It had a bath too which was welcome at the end of a ski day. host provided us with a local tourist card which allowed free travel on bus and train in the area as well as free entrance to the local pool which was a 10 min walk away so that was an unexpected treat. price quality could not be beaten for the proximity to the cable car and slopes.

A small group of us (all adults) stayed in this no-frills, typically Tyrolean property for 4 nights In early February. We flew into Salzburg airport and then transferred to St Johann using Austria Taxis which we pre-booked and took about an hour each way. The location is excellent, situated in a small quiet side street about 2 minutes walk from the bottom of the ski slopes and Max's apres-ski bar (turn left out of hotel and then left again) another minute to the ski hire shop and then 1 more to the main Gondola and ski bus stop if you want to take a trip to the Steinplatte 30 mins away which is well recommended for more extensive skiing. There are several nice restaurants within about a 5 minute walk (or you can have dinner in the hotel for €20 pp) and venture into the centre of St Johann within about 10 minutes. We had 3 double rooms between us one of which was smaller than the others and all with shower only, no bath. The rooms and property in general were very clean but only a wardrobe with shelves was provided, no drawers so storage was a bit limited. The only English channels on the TV were news channels (BBC, Sky, CNN) but that didn't bother us as we weren't there to watch TV! A fairly decent hairdryer (plug in sort) was provided and also a kettle but only tiny plastic cups and no coffee/tea so take your own. Beds were fairly comfy and there was free wifi which seemed to work well. Breakfast was standard continental fare together with bacon, scrambled eggs and American style pancakes which were quickly replenished when getting low. There was a good selection of teas but no English Breakfast so take your own PG tips if you fancy a decent brew! A heated ski room was situated in the basement but it was quite small and soon got full up with equipment and only room for maybe 3-4 people at time to sort themselves out with their kit but did the job. There was also a sauna but only available at certain times. The only real drawback of this property is that there is no bar/lounge area which you might expect from a property calling itself a "Hotel". As non-smokers we would have really welcomed this as the bars are so smoky in Austria to the extent that it's often uncomfortable to stay in them and would have much preferred to spend time playing cards/games with a quiet drink in a nice atmosphere. Apart from that we really enjoyed our stay and appreciated the early check-in/later check-out which we requested in advance and was kindly afforded to us enabling us to maximise our time on the slopes.

“Nice Hotel, Nice location”

Nice small hotel and very well run by the owners.The hotel was very clean and tidy. Food was good. Hotel was nicely located, nice and peaceful, but not too far from the main town. We had an enjoyable stay at this hotel.
