Nestled in this iconic city, Hotel Sacher has thrived for 150 years since its opening in 1876. As Vienna’s only family-run luxury hotel, it embodies the poised refinement of old Europe and stands as the ultimate embodiment of authentic European old money style. The hotel was built on the site of the Kärntnertor Theater, erected back in 1709. After the Vienna State Opera was completed, the old theatre was demolished, and Eduard Sacher acquired the land to build his hotel. To this day, Hotel Sacher remains in the heart of the city, directly across from the Vienna State Opera. Major cultural landmarks including the Albertina Museum, the Hofburg Palace are all within easy walking distance. Boasting an illustrious heritage, the hotel ranks 49th on the World’s 50 Best Hotels list. It is one of only two establishments in Austria to hold a Michelin Three Key rating and serves as a distinguished member of LHW. The intimate lobby exudes exquisite taste, with walnut wall panels paired with burgundy velvet furnishings that evoke the romantic grandeur of the Habsburg Empire. Behind the reception lies a photo gallery, a hall of fame featuring portraits of nobles, celebrities, statesmen and artists, chronicling the hotel’s glorious history across two centuries. The hotel underwent its first major renovation starting in 2004, led by renowned French designer Pierre-Yves Rochon. The project lasted eight years, and the hotel reopened to guests in 2012. Its exclusive noble floor was fully refurbished in 2017. Today, it offers 152 guest rooms and suites, with the smallest room covering 27 square metres. Every interior detail is personally curated by the hotel’s family owners. All suites are named after operas, and the hallways are adorned with 19th-century Chinoiserie wallpaper popular among European high society at the time. The Deluxe Room with View features a soft Tiffany blue palette. Damask wallpaper, velvet curtains, walnut furniture and brass lighting blend gracefully, creating a perfect fusion of gentle elegance and classic luxury. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame unbeatable views of the opera house, requiring no filters at all. Welcome amenities include champagne and miniature Sacher cakes, while all non-alcoholic drinks in the in-room minibar are replenished free of charge daily. The bathroom is thoughtfully appointed with bespoke toiletries. A powerful rainfall shower effortlessly washes away travel fatigue. The attentive turndown service even embroiders guests’ names on pillowcases, delivering a uniquely personal touch of romance. The original Sacher-Torte is another world-famous highlight. Crafted following a centuries-old secret recipe by hand, it draws endless queues outside Café Sacher. Fortunately for hotel guests, this iconic treat is served directly to rooms and breakfast tables. Three private bars inside the hotel also serve authentic Sacher-Torte. Breakfast is presented in a classic European semi-buffet style, featuring a wide selection of traditional Austrian pastries, sparkling wine, cold cuts and freshly baked bread.
