“Budget hotel close to the station”

Newly renovated, small room, air conditioning and TV. I did not take breakfast but the buffet looked delicious. Check in at the bar, slightly confusing. And it took me two days to find the hidden wardrobe! But it is there, if you are the fairest of them all😉

Note: this hotel is now called the "Green Hotel". I stayed here for a week whilst visiting Genk on business. It's located a short walk from the train station, and an even shorter walk from Genk's main square. The room was a bit on the small side (but then again, that's to be expected from a single room). The WiFi was a bit slow, but everything else was great. The room was cleaned every day, and the breakfast did the job (although, next time, I will go to the bakery next door instead). A word of warning: the rooms aren't equipped with air conditioning and can get rather stuffy at night time - even when it's not too hot outside. A good hotel for the price.

Small room, but clean and nice. Great water pressure in the shower, although on the second day only temperature available was hot, more hot and scalding. Hotel prob gets a ding for not having a receptionist - I was greeted with a note on the door saying we close at 10pm but call this number to find us. And on checkout there was no receptionist. By EU standards, definitely not a 2-star. Even by American standards, this was better than most 3-stars. Just a tiny room.

It's an unattended check-in but there were instructions to call them upon arrival. Once establishing my identity, they gave mea code to a wall-mounted keysafe which contained my keycard, and that let me in. It was a bit of a hunt to find my room but eventually located it. The room itself isn't spacious - narrow with a bed, small bathroom behind - but was sufficient for what I wanted: clean and functional. The wall has a couple of charging points (but these were broken) and I couldn't get the coffee machine to work... I was probably doing something wrong, but there appeared to be no instructions and I wasn't used to one of them so they happily gave me a coffee from the breakfast bar in the morning. I had an issue with the front door unlocking - the green indicator and click showed that it recognised my card, but pulling on the door wouldn't budge so several times I just walked through the bar to the side. My card wasn't charged and the notification email said I'd pay upon arrival, but throughout my stay there was no office open nor anyone requesting to pay. In the end I checked with the restaurant staff that managed to contact the owner, only to find their machine wouldn't accept my card (but had no problems with a bar bill the previous day). We got it sorted in the end, but the organisation felt a bit chaotic. Would stay again, nonetheless - it's in a pleasant quiet area, almost directly opposite the train station, so pretty convenient.
