“Cannot fault, absolutely great!”

Wonderful in every way. Location is perfect for exploring Berlin. Room was large, comfortable, well equipped, spotlessly clean. Just perfect. Public areas were opulent and splendid. Staff were helpful, polite, friendly and welcoming. Bakery immediately next door was great for breakfast.

Had an excellent stay here with my wife, parents and siblings. From Mark at the breakfast restaurant to Anna at the check in desk the service received from all staff was incredible. The downside here is the rooms are definitely dated an in need of an update. However the lobby, first floor restaurant and bar, and second floor breakfast area/ lounge have all recently been renovated along with the fitness center. I’ve read elsewhere the 6th floor’s rooms have all been redone with additional updates ongoing. The pool and spa are due to reopen in August. All of this to say the hotel recognizes the need for a refurb but doesnt let dated rooms dim the guest experience. Breakfast was phenomenal and while the lounge setup is a bit odd it’s a welcome amenity that we took advantage of. Great value for the price we paid for our stay and conveniently located in Berlin. Would definitely come back!

“Subpar JW Property”

This is a nice hotel but not up to the standards of other JW Marriott properties. If it were an option, I would probably rate it 3.5 stars. We arrived at the hotel at about 12 noon on a Sunday. There were no bell hops to offer to assist with the luggage. Only after we checked-in and was walking to the elevator did anyone approach us to see if we needed assistance. The front desk line was long, apparently with a mix of guests checking out and checking in. Three people were on duty. We likely waited close to 30 minutes. Once it was our turn, it was fine. The person checking us in was efficient providing all of the information. The wait does not appear isolated as we needed an additional key later and, again, waited over 30 minutes. The lobby is beautiful. The hallways are confusing and there was little air movement. It was stuffy for the duration of the trip. We arrived during a heat wave and left after the heat broke. The hallways were the same. We had an executive queen room and it was fine - organized, clean and well appointed. There were a few items that were tired but nothing that was unacceptable. The AC is what I would describe as European-style, not very cold by US standards. The breakfast buffet was solid with a multitude of choices across cultures. The concierge was informative, but a bit lacking in service. We inquired about several activities and trips. He gave great suggestions and then told us those could be booked by ourselves online, which is a little odd. Most offer to book on our behalf. He did offer to book on our behalf when I asked. Note: an Executive room does not give access to the Executive lounge. It is very misleading. I am not even sure what we paid for by getting an Executive room. They claim it is on a higher floor (perhaps), but we had a view of windows of other rooms, and that the room was bigger but it was a standard sized room. The location of the hotel is a bit out of the way from the main action and surrounded by museums and other cultural institutions. A walk to Potsdamer Platz or the Playce is about 10 minutes. Overall a good hotel but lacking in terms of amenities other JW properties offer.

This is a good, very large hotel, in a quiet area near the embassies, very easy to walk to the Philharmonie, or get across town or to the Zoo and on to Potsdam using buses M29 or 200 - or it’s a 10 minute walk to Potsdamer Platz for train connections further afield and to Brandenburg Airport. We had an executive king room, with plenty of space. Breakfast is absolutely phenomenal and every member of staff we spoke to was keen to help. So why is this only a 3 star review? Because design failings make staying here pretty frustrating and really affect the guest experience. - There is only 1 USB point and it has hardly any power so even 7 hours on charge won’t give you a full phone battery. - Of the 3 electrical socket points available, one is at almost ground level, one is for the kettle (or coffee machine - you can’t use both at once) and the other is in the bathroom. - There is a thin shelf above the bed but no side tables - so no space for a book or glass of water near the bed. The light above the bed is not strong enough for reading. - There are 5 wardrobes but no exterior hooks to hang a wet towel or a wet coat to dry. - It took us a while to find robes and slippers, because they were in the wardrobe furthest away from the bathroom. - The kettle and coffee machine are very welcome but the cups provided have no handles and are not heatproof so there is a real risk of burning your hand trying to pick up a cup of coffee. I asked at reception instead for 2 cups with handles but that didn’t happen, so in the end I went down to the breakfast area on the 1st floor and a team member was happy to give me 2 cups to take back to my room. - Conversely, our fridge (which I use for medicines) was not cold. There was no dial to change the temperature so I had to ask the maintenance team to look at it. - After a recent injury, climbing into a bath would have been tricky so we requested a walk-in shower. Yes, there was an individual stall but the water comes through separate cold and hot taps, not easy to distinguish or manage and the temperature is inconsistent. The mobile shower head is difficult to manoeuvre and there isn’t a shelf for toiletries. You have to put the bottles on the floor which isn’t ideal. - The glass door to the shower is set so close to the floor that there is no room to place the bath mat. You have to step out to the side to the bath mat, then shuffle to reach a towel. The glass door also opens outwards, straight into the bathroom door. - Like others, one of the reasons we booked this hotel, months ago, was because it had a pool. It was therefore disappointing that the pool was closed for refurbishment. The alternative offered was use of the pool at another hotel, 12 minutes’ walk away, but our Reception would have to ring theirs to warn them in advance that we were coming. That didn’t work for us. The pool clearly does need a refit though as the smell hits you as soon as you get out of the lift on the 6th floor. We were glad our room was quite a long way from the lift. The hotel generally is good, so It is such a shame that whoever designed these rooms did not think through the practicalities. We would only stay again if we could be sure of a fully modernised room, and after the pool works have been completed (I think in early July).
