I had a really enjoyable stay at the Leonardo Hotel Berlin Mitte. The location in the theatre district of old East Berlin is ideal — plenty to explore nearby and great transport links for getting around the city. My room was lovely: modern, clean, and nicely decorated, with daily housekeeping and complimentary water provided, which was a thoughtful touch. The whole hotel felt tidy and well maintained throughout my stay. I also really liked the bar area next to reception; it’s a stylish and relaxed spot to unwind after a day out in Berlin. Overall, a comfortable and welcoming hotel that I’d happily return to.

We stayed in a Superior Double Room for 7 nights and had a good stay. The hotel is in a perfect location close to Friedrichstraße station. The staff were pleasant and housekeeping was excellent. The only negative from a staff perspective was that when we checked in, we were given our key and basically dismissed. In any other hotel I’ve stayed, you’d be told where the elevator or stairs were, or given loose directions to find your room, as well as some information on the available amenities in the hotel. For example, we didn’t know there was a sauna, vending machine, and a free to use shoe polisher until we ventured to floor 9 on our last day to see what the “feel good lounge” was after seeing a sign. We also didn’t know the hotel provided umbrellas to guests until midway through our stay. We had declined to add on breakfast at check-in (we felt €22pp for 7 days was excessive, but we didn’t say that, we just politely declined) and the receptionist seemed to be a bit taken back. I don’t know if that’s why they dismissed us. Our room was spacious, and the bathroom was a great size and had great water pressure. The hair dryer was also surprisingly really good. Unfortunately, the bed was pretty uncomfortable and almost bouncy. The AC in the room was quite pitiful, we spent the first 3 days waking up constantly due to the heat. I cannot imagine sleeping there when temperatures were 30+ in the evening. The rooms feature an in room “suite pad” (little iPad/tablet) but the only option on it that worked for us was to cancel housekeeping. It actually asked us if we wished to cancel housekeeping for the entirety of our 7 night stay! Our in room phone didn’t work either. There is a really nice bar next to reception with alcohol priced on par with most places we went to. That said, a cup of black tea was €4.50 which is absolutely appalling. Overall we had a nice time but would likely stay somewhere else just purely due to the bed being so uncomfortable.

When I realized this morning that I don't have a flight I went to the Leonardo Website to cancel my reservation. The declared policy was that you can cancel without any fees up to 6pm at the day of arrival. On the Website there's a button "manage" (see photo). Gladly I pressed it to find out that there's no online cancellation option (see photo)! Then I looked at the Web and saw many complaints on that. Tried to reach them in every possible way from the morning with no real response. Finally I was announced that it was cancelled 2 hrs. before deadline. I am a member of the network and been to their hotels many times. This time was not a pleasant experience.

“NOT IMPRESSED WITH THIS HOTEL”

Arrived around 1pm to be told the upgraded room we booked was not ready. Came back at 3pm the advertised entry time and still not ready. Arrived around 1pm to be told the upgraded room we booked was not ready. Came back at 3pm the advertised entry time and still not ready. Eventually got to room to find there is no refrigerator as advertised but a cold box. So if its not cold to start with, you have no way of chilling it. No kettle as advertised. Reception had one delivered to room but there were no teaspoons, no teabags, no milk etc etc. There are three lifts for a pretty large hotel. One not working and barricaded off, one works but only if you are happy to go to every floor where it stops, opens it doors and waits. So one lift. Queues at peak times were ridiculous and the crowding when a lift arrived was claustrophobic. There are stairs, but they do not go to Reception, they come out at the far side of the hotel and you have to walk round the street and back into Reception. Room was large but a bit minimalist, you could have thought it was a store room for odd bits of furniture. Everything was very clean and breakfast was plentiful and a great selection. Close to all the sites and railway station. Day two I had to go to Reception as there appeared to be a problem in the room next to us. A lot of noises like someone in pain or needing assistance. I went down to Reception but was met with disinterest. Said she would call someone but I waited in Reception as I was not convinced. Took time to say goodbye to guests before picking up the phone.... Never heard or saw anyone near the room which we reported..... The following day the same again. We suspect it was a disabled person who was staying with family but it should have been investigated urgently. Not impressed with this hotel and would not stay again. There is a good Italian restaurant just round the corner though.
