Queen’S Hotel Saba

“Excellent Stay”

Beautiful place at the Bottom in a quiet surrounding. Manager Thierry and his wife Sandra welcomed us warmly and take great care of us. Accomodation was excellent and clean. Dinner was excellent. All dinner menu items were yummy and freshly and well prepared.

We had read as much as possible about Queen's Resort and Spa before booking. I had read a few reviews that said it was "tired", but what we encountered wasn't just tired. Unfortunately, Queen's Resort is very tired. It's evident that it's owners have not put adequate funds into maintaining this once lovely resort. We're quite used to 'low travel' times in the Caribbean. Most of our 41 years of travel have been in August, since we love the quieter, less touristy time in the Caribbean. Saba was the 16th island we've visited...and several numerous times. The manager Sandra greeted us with enthusiasm and tried to make the best of the conditions. She truly gave it her best. First, we did not get the room we had requested. Our requested room was in the top building, with a view of the town below (The Bottom), the mountains and the sea. Instead, we got a side room, on a lower level. Evidently, there was no AC in the top room. When we were taken to our room, and Chef Andrew came out to carry our luggage, I was a bit surprised. (More on that later). When walking to our room, there was an overwhelming smell of decaying fruit. The mango tree was dropping it's fruit and there were piles of rotting mangoes and smears of rotted fruit on the decking. Everything needed a good scrubbing!! Keeping up with the fruit droppings was a full-time job, but there weren't enough staff to tend the place. Dinner was good our first night, but not exceptional. I don't think the resort was prepared for dinner guests. No bartender, just Sandra the manager and Chef Andrew. Our coconut shrimp were flat and frozen, not plump and succulent. The tuna dish was well prepared. Our snapper with fresh vegetables was nicely done and tasty. Andrew was doing his best. The ledges and decking of the entire resort was dirty. The shrubs and palms needed trimming. The pool looked a bit cloudy and the chairs and pads just old and tired. We made the decision to leave Saba (Queen's Resort) after 4 nights and head to St. Martin a day early. My husband had a long, heartfelt discussion with the manager of Queen's Resort. It was truly not what we were expecting. To the owners......if you want to restore your ratings, put some love and money into your resort. To Tripadvisor......keep up on your reviews and ratings. This is no longer a 4.7 resort.
