“Good Budget Hotel to Visit Manaus”

The Lord Hotel has the essentials for what we were looking for in Manaus, a comfortable bed and a nice shower. The room layout itself was very interesting - and the windows provided a nice view of the city.

Driving down the street to the Lord Hotel at night you would be forgiven for thinking really bad things about the place. However, during the day the place transforms into a bustling market place full of life and colour. The hotel itself is a bit rundown and the carpets need replacing. The excellent staff more than made up for the lack of investment by the owners. From reception staff to bar staff to the cleaners, everyone was extremely helpful and polite. They were patient and obliging and nothing was too much trouble. The owners REALLY need to put some money into redecorating the place and stocking the bar properly. The bar staff do their best with what they have but it's hard to serve drinks you don't have. And I'm talking about white wine!!! Not something weird and wonderful!! All in all though a pleasant experience and very close to local attractions.

Stayed here with friends for 3 nights during the last World Cup match in Manaus. Located in downtown Manaus, very close to the port or 'marina' the surrounding areas at first appeared suspect but on venturing out found the police presence made the place more than safe and the locals were more than pleasant when interacted with. Most importantly the hotel is clean and tidy, yes it's appearance is somewhat dated, but by the look of it, it was once quite prestigious. The staff were very helpful (especially the door staff or bell-boys) and did their best to break the language barrier with my non Portuguese speaking friends (even using the PC to translate at times). Whilst breakfast wasn't too bad (can't really go wrong with a selection of breads, cereals and cold meats) the dinner left a lot to be desired. Cold, grey looking meats which whilst edible, certainly didn't live up to the description on the menu. For the price, it's a well located hotel if you wish to go on a boat trip on the amazon or experience real Manaus life and mingle with locals. Even if you don't, the staff seem to take the security and safety of their guests seriously and were always able to summon a taxi swiftly if you wished to venture further away.

We stayed at the Lord Manaus for one evening with our children during the World Cup. The staff tried to communicate by translating on the computer which was helpful. They were kind and eagerly wanted to make sure we were comfortable. The hotel is definitely dated, but relatively clean. Breakfast was good, plenty of different foods. The area is quite busy and a little sketchy at night, but we felt safe.
