“Lovely hotel, very homely”

We stayed here on our first trip to Brazil. The rooms are basic but clean and well finished.   • Guests at Pousada Lua E Mar say: We stayed here on our first trip to Brazil. The rooms are basic but clean and well finished. Good shower, the air conditioning works very well and is very quiet so we could have it on at night - good when staying in summer! We opted for a room with a patio which means a large tiled balcony with hammock. This was great, although my only suggestion would be as the rooms are double it would be nice to have a chair for the second person- we took it in turns for the hammock! Free WiFi works well, and there is a computer for guests use. Fridges in the rooms, large enough to store your own drinks and also well stocked with reasonably priced drinks. The family who run the hotel are lovely - the owner and his children speak a little English, which was very useful to us - they are also happy to try and help, eg using translate on the PC when we were stuck! They have pet guinea pigs who live in the garden and also pet birds who roam free in the garden in the day who are very tame. The breakfasts are as good as the pictures show, very large range of foods. The hotel is a few doors away from the beach which is beautiful and so large that it was never crowded while we were there. There are a couple of restaurants nearby on the main road and some beach bars that do food too, although it is mainly hotels. There is more in south ilheus - took us 20 mins to walk to the area near the airport, this was the nearest shops that we could see. There are buses to the city or short trip if in a car. I imagine ilheus doesn't get many English tourists and whilst we enjoyed our stay bear in mind that you need at least a little knowledge of Portuguese to get by - at least to direct taxis and understand restaurant menus. Taxi from the hotel to bus station was around 30Rs and meals locally between 20-80Rs. Nb the rooms don't have safes, but the hotel is surrounded by walls and reception staff buzz you in from seeing you on CCTV - it felt very safe and we didn't have any concerns leaving things in our room. Adapters - the plugs are the two pin recessed types. We couldn't find an adapter to fit (due to the shape not the pins) but we were able to charge our phones from the PC which was handy!
