When you'er visiting an Island as gorgeous as Fernando de Noronha, you don't need a palace as a base. This hotel was more than adequate for those purposes. If you book this place without booking a taxi, make sure to talk to a few of the upselling tourist women at the airport because after much handwringing over trying to catch one of the few Island taxis we found out we could just get a free ride to the hotel in exchange for an earsplitting Portuguese sales pitch. Once at the hotel we found out they had no trace of our booking via booking.com (apparently a common enough experience in Brazil that we were warned by our south american friends to carry printed copies of our reservations like the olden days). Before we could even start to get mad we were immediately put in to a nice room right at the front. It had a nice flat screen high above and a fine enough shower (just like the pictures accompanying the hotel). Nobody spoke English, but the wonders of the Android phone's offline translator helped us out (especially since the advertised WIFI was non existent). The pool was fine, the hammock good to rest in, and the breakfast exceeded my expectations (scrambled eggs, toast, fruit, fruit juice, coffee etc.). The hotel was only about a 10 minute walk from several decent restaurants and another 10 minutes took you down towards a lovely beach and past one of the few international working ATMS. All in all, I would definitely recommend a stay here, just make sure you have an offline translator (which you could say for most of Brazil).

This Pousada was a decent place to stay in Fernando de Noronha. There are Pousadas everywhere, however and I didn't fully explore the options before I booked. This Pousada is near town, near the bus stop, and near a small supermarket, so it is convenient. It has a nice little pool to cool off in and decent breakfast, explained in other posts, is provided. The staff are friendly- if you don't speak Portugese, you NEED to have an off-line translator. Take care of this before you arrive as the Internet that is "provided" is not sufficient. If it is raining, there is no contact with the outside world...at all. Not their fault, but you need to know this in advance. The Internet on the island as a whole is sometimes available, sometimes not. The rooms are adequate, but mine, #6 in the back by the breakfast room, had an invasion of ants AND flying ants when it rained. I did not like that. It was also noisy starting at 5:30 am as the staff prepared for breakfast at 6 am. I am half deaf and it still woke me up every day. The price was right at about $105 a night during off season - but when my flight was cancelled on the way out of town, I was put at Pousada Mar Aberto in the same neighborhood and it was much nicer. Probably more expensive, too. The free transport provided to the pousada from the airport is provided by "Blue" a tour company that tries to get you to book tours of the island with them. I did so and the boat tour was great. The island tour was LONG and just ok. The island is spectacular. 4 days is about right. Plan to avoid rainy season. Pousada dos Corais was fine.
