I had long dreamed of going to the amazon, and now that I finally have, I can say it exceeded my expectations! I had such a wonderful time at Tupana Lodge. The people are so lovely, and I had a very cool and cozy little house right near the forest. It was very clean and I had everything that I needed – be reminded that this is not the Ritz, but you are very close to "the wild" and it can be a genuinely mind changing experience. I especially liked that there is no Wifi, so you can listen to the sounds of the forest and it really takes you out of your everyday stress. My guide for the stay was Carlos, and he was amazing. He shared so much knowledge, was sooo good at spotting animals, and overall was a delight to be around. I even spent a night in the forest (you should do so, if you can), which was an amazing experience. My guide for this was Joaquin, and I felt safe and looked after the entire time. I can really recommend this lodge, especially since it is connected to very beautiful projects to protect and preserve the surrounding nature, and to be of service to the people in the region. I'd very much like to come back one day, if I can.

If you truly want to understand the Amazon and the people who have lived, and still live, within it, make sure to ask for Carlos and Joaquim as your guides. Carlos was able to teach every member of our family something new and gave us a deeper appreciation for the many layers that shape life in the Amazon. His focus wasn’t on flashy presentations or romanticizing the landscape or its people, yet every tour felt engaging, meaningful, and fun. We stayed for five days, which we realized early on was longer than the average visit, but we didn’t regret a single moment. Carlos and Joaquim were an energetic, humorous, and dedicated team who consistently managed to educate, entertain, and adapt the experience to our interests. Joaquim, who assisted Carlos throughout our stay, was especially charming, his infectious smile and positive energy lifted the mood wherever we went. Even among an already welcoming and friendly staff, Carlos and Joaquim stood out. We highly recommend them!

The experience at Tupana is unforgettable for anyone looking for a nature retreat without major discomfort from local animals or insects. The room is fully screened and provides a comfortable night’s sleep. Swimming with the pink river dolphin Neneca was wonderful, and the dog Pluto is certainly the most beloved mascot of the place. The guides and staff — Antonio, Manuel, Joaquim, Ana, Carol, and David — were very helpful and patient. Definitely recommended!

It’s hard to review this fairly as the overall experience was great. The activities, the nature, afternoon naps in the hammock, the dolphins literally swimming off the dock! That being said we stayed in superior rooms and they are VERY rustic as other reviewers have stated. If you are looking for luxury in the jungle this is not your place. The rooms are sparse, the bathrooms not pleasant. No WiFi, air conditioning, screens not windows which I knew but also no hot water! You have to basically understand that you are almost “camping in a cabin” for your time there. The food prepared by the staff was delicious, our guide Antonio and the other guides were excellent. Definitely a memorable experience just know what you are getting into! Bring cash to tip your guides and the staff. Bring a wet bag for trips and also for your wet clothes returning (hard to get things to dry completely.). Bring snacks if you want (food served at specific times and nothing else available.). We were fine but if you get hungry or are picky you might want some snacks- nuts, crackers, etc. bring a refillable water bottle as they have a filtered water machine you can use.
