Royal Rio Palace Hotel

“Great staff and great location”

This hotel is in a perfect location, walk to the beach and restaurants. Our family enjoyed the rooftop pool and restaurant. The staff are friendly and accommodating. The rooms are a bit dated, but it's still a wonderful hotel when in Brazil.

The pictures on the hotel website look really stylish and lovely I wish I'd have check pictures on Trip Advisor before pre-pay booking on hotels.com. First impressions, with gangs of people slouching all over reception furniture, and children running everywhere projected what the RRP is - a family budget hotel. The rooms are very basic but clean and tidy. The lack of things like disposable slippers (for cold tiled floors), tea/coffee facilities, dressing gowns, decent toiletries etc. were not un-expected when we got to the rooms. Bedding was good. Clean and beds comfortable. The air con was pre-set to 23degree, and very noisy on full fan, so don't even bother frustrating yourself by trying to lower it below this. Nobody ever answered reception phone call. No room service menus or any offering. There was no room iron/board service available for people who like to look immaculate all the time, although we were very few and far between. Thank God for a "valuables safe" as anything of any value like watches/jewellery needs to be in it at all times! I think our room had had a recent paint job by a "blind contractor" but it was acceptable, the front of the building is very noisy but to be expected as Rio's streets are awash with temporary generators making more racket than aircraft taking off. In such a huge family hotel we were expecting chaos at breakfast. Talking honestly, this was the best part of the stay. The huge packed-out dining room was efficiently staffed and tables therefore readily available. The offering was very extensive, and there was nearly everything you could wish for hot and cold. The buffet was constantly replenished so everything was fresh for the army of people filling their boots (and saddo's filming the food for their saddo social media page). Probably the breakfast offering elevated the rating TO "4-star" because I'm not sure the rest of it quite made the grade. The hotel appears to be "fantastic value" when you look at the rates/pictures, in reality it's a budget offering with areas really tired. The rates are not as they appear to be "fantastic value" they are basically are a reflection of what you get..... for a family it's a great offering, for people used to something better maybe there's nicer smaller alternatives for the money or a little bit more. Great proximity to Copacabana hotel, bars/eateries and beach although beach vendors become tiresome - it's every 2 minutes!
