“Needs some modernisation”

You need a taxi / uber when staying at this hotel as downtown is 10-15 minute drive. Rooms contain shampoo and soap bars, bring your own shower gel etc. Hotel is a bit outdated compared to some of the photos. But overall a good hotel. Breakfast had a basic selection of foods.

LOCATION & ATTRACTIONS NEARBY *** Mercure Florianopolis Convention Hotel is conveniently located (if you have a car) between the Florpia’s city centre and all the major beaches. It’s just next to the gas station with a large convenience store (where you can do all your grocery shopping). Parking/garage is payable extra, 25 BRL. HOTEL OVERVIEW *** This is definitely business (mainly domestic) orientated hotel, but also quite convenient for leisure stays. It has a nice restaurant and currently hotel has some of the rooms renovated (more to come as far as I know). PURPOSE OF THIS TRIP *** Leisure – last minute booking RESERVATION *** I have stayed there a previous year and it was OK. This time I did not plan to stay in this area at all, but due to different circumstances (the other hotel I booked was awful), I decided to make a last minute, midnight reservation and go to a known place. Mercure Florianopolis Convention Hotel was just few minutes away and this was great choice. I should have booked it in first place being very honest. I booked it around midnight and few minutes later I showed up at reception. It was very handy as I could book (special prices as well) in the app and the reservation was available immediately in the app to review / change etc. LENGTH OF MY STAY *** 1 night – Dec ‘19 CHECK-IN *** I arrived after midnight and was checked-in immediately. Lovely welcome with a smile and helpful attitude that’s what I really needed. I was also upgraded from a standard room (needed it for few hours only) to a new, renovated room. My car was parked in the valet parking and I was able to hit the bed in minutes. It was great that I could communicate in English as I don’t speak Portuguese. LOBBY & RECEPTION *** Considerably small and can be busy in the morning. There’s some sitting space and if needed, they are also able to securely store your luggage. The lifts are dreadfully slow, but I think this will be also done when the renovation is completed. ROOM *** #1120 – Executive Apartment on top floor – this was my upgrade for this few hours stay. I loved it. Comparing the “old rooms”, this was a lovely improvement. It wasn’t the biggest room (I paid only for the standard one, so did not expect anything else), but spotless clean, modern and fresh. Very comfortable bed and fragrant bedding was fantastic. The room had a funny shape, but everything was designed in a smart way. The lightning was good and also I had a view over the city nearby. Air-conditioner was easy to operate and you could also open the window (which I usually prefer). There’s a safety deposit box, a phone, a kettle and plenty of electric sockets. A kettle was also there with two sets, but no coffee (which normally is somehow provided) and nothing to mix the warm drinks (a mixing stick or a spoon would be handy) – just a small comment on this. BATHROOM *** Shiny clean and also modern in style. Very bright and spotless. Good quality toiletries and fluffy towels were provided. This was a room with a shower cabin. BREAKFAST *** Breakfast was payable extra (approx. 7 EUR) and it’s served downstairs. Even for a busy hotel like this, the choice was great. Cold and warm meals, fresh fruit, juices, yoghurts & cereals, plenty of good coffee and of course selection of freshly baked cakes. Very happy with that and I do recommend you to take it there. INTERNET ACCESS *** Complimentary Wi-Fi, easy to access and connection stable. CHECK-OUT EXPERIENCE *** Once again, welcomed with a smile and assisted without any unnecessary delays. I was glad that I could leave my entire luggage for the day and be able to hit the beach without any worries. I came back for this the same afternoon. STAFF *** Absolutely fantastic. Even at mid-night check-in I was welcomed with a genuine hospitality and care. Professional, polite and natural staff – it’s not easy in a busy environment. OVERVIEW *** This was my second visit in this hotel and I’ve seen big improvement with the renovated rooms and staff attitude. I would be happy to come back there next time, not only as a last-minute emergency reservation like this time. It also offers fantastic value for money and if you have a car, it’s just perfect.

LOCATION & ATTRACTIONS NEARBY *** Just few minutes outside from the city centre, butquite convenient for the beach locations (if you have a car). Not far from the airport, but... if you leave in the morning, add 30 min extra. I was struggling to be on time. HOTEL OVERVIEW *** It is quite busy, mainly business-orientated hotel (kind of apartment hotel). It’s great value for money, but style can be a little bit dated already. There is car park attached (payable extra) and can be valet or they allow you to park it yourself (which I normally prefer and I don’t blame anybody else for damages if any). Just next to it there is a petrol station with a shop if you needed to do some grocery shopping. PURPOSE OF THIS TRIP *** Leisure RESERVATION *** Booked through accorhotels.com website. Check-in online was available and I used it. LENGTH OF MY STAY *** 1 night – Nov 2018 CHECK-IN *** It was quick and efficient. I have pre-checked-in online. It is cool feature, but some of the settings are not right. For example (photo attached), an early check-in they loaded in EUR and the price EUR 207,03 (it is clearly mistake and currency should have been BRL). LOBBY & RECEPTION *** Always busy, but functional. Staff is attentive and helps right away. ROOM *** I have booked a Superior Room with 1 Double Bed. It was located on the higher floor and I had a view of the road (not that you’d have any better views). Room was spacious, but kind of strange shape. Bedroom was separated with sliding doors, and in the “living room” there was an additional sofa (actually very comfortable and handy). I wasn’t keen for this room setup, but later found it very functional. Between the bathroom and bedroom you have this heavy glass window. Room was also quite dated in style. Semi-marble surface, old-style furniture and sofa which definitely had her best time far behind her. The bed in the bedroom was comfortable and I had a great night sleep. Room was clean and fresh (only sofa had some marks). There was a coffee/tea & the cups, but... no kettle. I searched for it and did not find one anywhere. Quite annoying when you wake up and you crave for your coffee (even instant one). Safety deposit box worked fine. There was not enough power sockets and if I remember correctly, none in the bedroom (everybody had so many devices to charge overnight that this is necessity). BATHROOM *** Was also all right, same “style” and also requires a little bit of refreshment. Some parts were broken or missing. It was clean thou. I like the toiletries they provided, really nice quality and pleasant feel. BREAKFAST *** I have pre-paid for it (32 BRL) and it was served from an early morning. Even if I was just 5 min after it opened, many guests were already there. Selection of warm and cold meals was good. Coffee was strong and nice. Loved the cakes and fresh fruit. It was presented quite well, but empty walls make this place freaky a little bit. Some plants would make this place livelier! Oh, I think that’s what I was missing there! INTERNET ACCESS *** It was complimentary and connection was good. CHECK-OUT EXPERIENCE *** Quick and I was able to hit the road to the airport within minutes. There was a little bit confusion with my pre-payment, but it as quickly resolved. STAFF *** Reception staff was very helpful, even with my almost-non-existent Portuguese. OVERVIEW *** Good value for money and OK location if you have a car and don’t mind driving (rush hours can be crazy).Hotel definitely require renovation soon, but it’s OK for the price. Rooms are clean, but dated.
