We’ve just returned from a 10‑day stay at the Sol Nessebar Palace in Burgas. It was myself, my husband, and our 13‑year‑old daughter. I wanted to give a detailed and honest review for anyone considering this hotel. Arrival & Check‑In We arrived by private transfer and were greeted immediately by a doorman who took our bags and led us to reception. Check‑in was quick, friendly, and efficient. We were given our all‑inclusive wristbands, which also act as your room key — a brilliant idea and much easier than juggling key cards. We were escorted to room 814 on the 8th floor. The room was huge, and it looked like we’d been upgraded to a family room, as there was a separate bedroom with two single beds. The balcony was massive with a beautiful sea and pool view. The balcony wall is quite high, so I had to stand on tiptoes to see over it, but the view itself was stunning. Location The hotel is a little out of the way. We walked to a pharmacy one day, but there isn’t much immediately around the resort. For us, this wasn’t a problem, but it’s worth knowing if you like to wander out daily. Room & Noise Once the door was closed, we couldn’t hear any noise from the corridor or outside — very peaceful. Rooms were cleaned every day, and we had lovely towel decorations each time. A really nice touch: each floor has a cold water station and coffee machines, and your room has a carafe so you can refill whenever you want and paper cups for the hot drinks. Quiet, convenient, and genuinely useful. Lifts The lifts were the biggest downside. There are only three, and they stop at every floor. They were often packed, and people struggled to get in. At one point a British lady pushed her pram straight onto the lift and into me, which summed up the chaos. If you’re able to use the stairs, it’s often quicker. Pool & Sunbeds My husband likes to go down early and sit with a coffee, so he put towels out each morning — but honestly, there were plenty of sunbeds available throughout our stay. Even at 10am, there were beds free right beside the pool, which is rare. This may be because we visited at the end of June/beginning of July, but it was a pleasant surprise. The pool temperature is cold. Not unbearable, but definitely refreshing. We didn’t try the indoor pool. Food & Drink Food options were plentiful. We’re fairly fussy eaters, but we found something every day, even if we stuck to the same favourites. Drinks were the weakest part of the all‑inclusive. The juices from the machines were very sweet and tasted cheap. Cocktails were machine‑made with local spirits. The Coke/Fanta/Sprite machines tasted different from what we’re used to — not watered down, just a different formula, as the canned versions at the shops tasted the same. Cleanliness The hotel is extremely clean. We constantly saw staff cleaning rooms, balconies, walls, ceilings, and removing dust or webs. Housekeeping was thorough and consistent. Staff Most staff were friendly, especially cleaners. Some were a bit grumpy or didn’t respond when spoken to, but I think this was more of a language barrier than rudeness. It didn’t affect our enjoyment. Entertainment Entertainment was surprisingly good — some of the best we’ve seen. Seating is mostly benches, which aren’t the comfiest, but we usually arrived early and got one of the few table seats at the back. Other Guests We did experience some rudeness, but this was from other guests rather than staff. Things like: balls being thrown repeatedly in our direction, people climbing over or sitting on our sunbeds, queue‑jumping, kids and adults not being aware of personal space Not the hotel’s fault, just a mixed crowd. Wi‑Fi Wi‑Fi was spotty. We had mobile data on our phones, so it wasn’t a big issue for us. Water Park We didn’t use the water park, even though we intended to. It looked good, just not something we got around to. Spa We had massages at the spa — they were good and reasonably priced. Trips & Transport Old Nessebar is a must‑visit — beautiful, full of shops, restaurants, and scenery. The water taxi wasn’t running the day we went so we took the hotel taxi, which was 15 euros. We did a short 30‑minute boat trip from the harbour, 10 euros each, which was lovely. We also visited Mall Galeria where my daughter and I bought some clothes and a Pandora charm (and another Pandora ring in Old Nessebar). We used the hotel taxi which cost €50 for a 20-30 minute trip, so I’d recommend checking cheaper options. Food Spots Around the Resort We tried quite a few of the additional food places: Fish & Chips: nice American Diner: burgers were lovely Gelato: very good German Bar Pretzels: tasty but would be better with salt Italian Restaurant: excellent quality Burger Spot: basic We didn’t try the sushi, paella, panini stand, wings, or Chinese options. Wildlife Watch out for seagulls — they will steal food from your sunbed if you leave it unattended. I also got pooped on once, but that’s supposed to be good luck yeh! Overall We had a great time and would definitely return. The resort is clean, the views are beautiful, and there’s plenty to do. The only downside is that prices for next year seem very high, so we may try somewhere else purely based on cost.

Just returned from a week here. Hotel is really clean and towels changed daily. Lots of food and drink choices. If you don’t want a buffet for lunch, which we never did, there are lots of snacks-donuts, pizza, chips, pretzels throughout the day. Cocktails are nice, lots of choices but very weak, which is to be expected. The Italian restaurant was absolutely lovely, best meal we had. Couple of problems we encountered. We had 2 rooms booked and had asked to be close to each other, which is obviously not guaranteed. We wasn’t even in the same building, myself, husband and 2 children were in the main building and our 18 year old and my sister were in the rooms by the pool. Also, on the day we arrived we noticed our shower was leaking. Spoke to reception and was told it would be looked at. It seemed the shower door didn’t have a good seal so the water leaked under the door so the bathroom floor was flooded every time we got a shower. We just learnt to live with it for the week. Overall, we had a lovely week.

“Missing the All in All inclusive”

For a Melia hotel and the experience we had from Gran Canaria i suppose its on me to have higher expectations. Context is everything and the service we had had previously on 5 star all inclusive. Was like comparing a fillet steak with a microwaveable rustler burger. Although not a bad hotel I feel it didnt really come close to a 5 star. I felt with the exception of the poor bar staff they just seemed happy to go through the motions and not necessarily work above a basic standard. I also didnt expect so many chargeable things at an all inclusive. The spa was €25 for the day but not a lot to justify the expense. Also many of the mini bowling, 8 ball pool, playstations, were all additional charges. I almost expect an oxygen charge at one point. Food was ok nothing particularly special it was disappointing to find out many of the additional restaurants dont open to middle of June. Drinks were also ok the mix of cocktails were nice and tasted pretty good. Due to a Late flight we needed a late checkout but they cant confirm one until the morning you leave which does cause a bit of unneeded stress especially as in this case an extra charge is expected. The gym also managed to have over half of its machines out of order. The room was a nice size and a nice bathroom but sadly the balcony didnt really have dividers it had one pane of frosted glass but in our room at 526 they were in different places on each side. Its really a shame as the hotel has a lot of potential and I feel it should try to maybe charge more for the rooms and make some of those inclusive. Some positives the Italian restaurant which you need to reserve was really nice and up to the standard of food I would expect. The water park and it slides were fun and not too busy. The floors had coffee machine and water dispensers on each floor with disposable cups in your room. Overall I feel 3 is fair for the experience as its taught me to be a little more cautious when booking a 5 star all inclusive. Once bitten twice shy.
