We recently stayed at the Metterra Hotel in Edmonton, and overall it was a decent experience. The biggest highlight is definitely the location. If you want to be right in the middle of the action, it’s hard to beat. You’re surrounded by great restaurants, shops, and everything Whyte Avenue has to offer, making it easy to explore on foot. The lobby is beautiful and welcoming, and the hotel offers a complimentary breakfast. We didn’t have a chance to try it, but it looked like there was a good selection. That said, there were a few downsides. Our room faced Whyte Avenue, and it was extremely noisy throughout the night. Between motorcycles revving their engines, loud traffic, and groups of people yelling and screaming outside, it was difficult to get a good night’s sleep. The patio doors didn’t seem to provide much sound insulation, so it felt like all the noise was coming right into the room. The room itself was also showing its age. The furnishings and bed were noticeably worn, which took away from the overall comfort. Parking is available, but both self-parking and valet come at an additional cost. It’s also worth noting that there’s limited space in front of the hotel, so even using valet can be a bit of a challenge during busy times. Overall, it wasn’t a bad stay, and the fantastic location is a major plus. If you’re planning to stay here, I’d definitely recommend requesting a room facing away from Whyte Avenue for a much quieter experience.

“Convenient location, noisy at night”

We were in Edmonton (first time visitors) for the weekend for a climbing competition, and Mettera was conveniently close to the event. The hotel itself looks nice when you walk into the lobby, and room was clean and carpeting looked quite new. The furniture was a little dinged up and shabby and the bathroom was clean but needed updating. The room did feel quite warm, even though we turned off the thermostat as recommended. On the one hand, it was a great location in that there's a lot of stuff on Whyte so plenty of places to eat, and close to the Old Strathcona Market which was nice for a visit, but as many other reviews have said it is very loud and we were there on a weekend. I did ask for a room facing away from the street and the hotel did accommodate that request, but it's unavoidable that it's noisy though the earplugs helped. The staff were nice and the breakfast was fine, but if you need somewhere quiet at night this is not the place for you.
