My wife and I and another couple enjoyed an amazing breakfast at the Manoir Rouville-Campbell. The outdoor seating was closed on the morning we visited and so we sat in the comfortable internal, at a large table with a view of the gardens and the Richelieu River. I had eggs easy-over with sausage and my wife had scrambled. Both of our guests had Eggs Benedict, which were very good. All breakfasts are served with homemade toast and amazing jams. Service was excellent as was the coffee. The Manoir is an excellent choice for a leasurely breakfast on the Richelieu.

“Charming hotel, clean - no charm on the food and drinks”

We stayed two nights (Thursday and Friday) on a bed and breakfast package. We choose this area for a mini-get-a-away which including a visit to the Strom. Our room was basic, however very clean. A mini-fridge was included. The bathroom was very nice and the shower had amazing water pressure! The bed was comfy and we slept well. We decided to book a couples massage at the hotel. The massage therapist came in from RelaxOSpa. The relaxation lounge at the hotel was very impressive. We also had the whole place to ourselves (most likely due to the low season and Covid restrictions). The lounging chairs were very comfy and overlooked the pool and river. The view must be quite nice in the summer months. Our massage was very good. We were looking forward to a nice dinner at the restaurant and oh my we were so disappointed. The server was excellent, however both the food and presentation is not reflective of any "fine dining". My plate arrived with a blob of cauliflower puree that tasted like mayonnaise, my cod fish was raw and the very few vegetables were dry. The server was apologetic and took the dish back which I replaced with a pasta with mushroom. No sauce and no taste and certainly over priced. My husband's lamb dish was underwhelming with more bone than meat. This was suppose to be my husband's b-day dinner. I was gutted that I had just dished out $100 for terrible food. The breakfast was slightly better, however no choice in breads other than white, overcooked and greasy potatoes. We enjoyed lunch and dinner off site. I have nothing but good things to say about the staff service. When I called and booked they were very accommodating. The front reception (Lynn) was great and very helpful. We would recommend the hotel if you need a cozy room for the night but not recommend it for eating there. Location is good if you are visiting the Strom Spa just 10 minutes away.

We stayed for two nights (Thursday and Friday) on a bed and breakfast package. MRC is in a spectacular setting, on the shore of the Richelieu River, with incredible grounds. Certainly beautiful and a feast for the eyes. The room was a hotel room. Good size, dual-aspect (we booked and paid extra for this). Wonderfully comfy bed. Probably due to Covid restrictions, lacking a few things - no guide to the hotel or its amenities, no bathroom amenities other than a single bar of soap. Bath gel, shampoo and conditioner in dispensers in the shower (no tub). Shower drain very slow - got a lot of water on the floor of the bathroom which is extremely dangerous for seniors such as ourselves. So far, so good. But the food and drink - oh dear! The restaurant must be employing a chef who likes to experiment, but the combinations are bizarre. Blueberry pancakes with tarragon. Pavlova with parsley - meringue the colour and consistency of old hardwood all the way through, not just on the surface. Boeuf tartare on a layer of ricotta and arugula. Eggs Benedict with thickly-cut (at least 1/2 inch), very salty hot smoked salmon and kale. Sorry, none of this works. A filet was tasty but tough - hard to cut and chewy even though it was nicely pink. Oysters were good, but hard to mess up. Had to ask both times we had it for a spoon to distribute the dressing. The restaurant was enough of a challenge, but Ludu's bar was something else. The bartender could not find a key (on a ring with a dozen keys) to unlock the beer taps, so I had a Heineken from a can. My wife ordered a margarita (not one of the five or six - I kid you not, that's all there were - listed cocktails). When she tried it (salt only halfway around the rim), she puckered right up. She asked the barman to see the recipe he used. Clearly called for sugar syrup. "We didn't have any, so I couldn't put it in." Unreal. Then asked where the crushed ice was. "We don't have a blender." She had him pour her some Campari and tonic. At least she wasn't charged. I should think not. How much of this is due to Covid-related staff issues I'm not sure. But it spoils what should be a fabulous stay.
