Our first trip to Kingston, ON - looked for a hotel within walking distance to the attractions. Made the right choice - Residence Inn by Marriott at Water's Edge. Chose a studio room with a lake view - right choice - beautiful view of Lake Ontario and Battery Park. The room was spacious, clean and very comfortable (with a full sized fridge). The hotel staff at the front desk were great - welcoming, professional, kind, and helpful. The morning staff in the breakfast area were also very kind and welcoming. We extended our visit for an additional day as there is so much to see and do in Kingston - we recommend getting the K-Pass for the attractions - definitely got our money's worth. Also there are great restaurants in Kingston. A very welcoming community for tourists - very happy we made the trip. Great job Kingston and staff at the Residence Inn at Water's Edge.

“Great location ok hotel”

The location of this hotel is great and makes exploring the city very convenient. However, it was a basic hotel stay without extras like turndown service or robes, and the suite itself felt quite small. This is a ok choice if you prioritize a prime location over room size and amenities.

We were in town to visit the Queen's University, and we stayed here for one night. We drove in from Toronto, and the first thing we noticed on arrival was the minimal space available to stop and check-in. A single car didn't pull up the driveway or give enough space to allow other's to pass, so the rest of us that were ready to check-in had to wait in the street for that driver to return before we could take our turn to go in to check-in ourselves. You need to have a hotel key to get into the parking lot. We eventually did check-in, and it was an average feel. The front desk asked for my ID and credit card, and passed over the keys. They mentioned the breakfast hours, and parking is $40 (ouch). We parked our car in the underground parking lot. We eventually got our room and it's a standard looking Residence Inn, with kitchenette, living area and bed. It was a good size, was in relatively good condition. It is dated (stucco walls), and the toilets have a very loud flush. We did have a view over the lake, which I'm sure it more impressive in the summer time. Noise was a serious issue - I heard the crying baby in the next room, the heavy winds outside, and the toilet flushes from those nearby - it made it difficult to sleep. Our primary purpose was to visit Queen's University, which is about a 15 minute walk away. The hotel is close to Princess Street where most of the restaurants and shopping is. Breakfast is the typical selection at a Residence Inn with hot meat, egg and potato, along with cereals, pastries, yogurt or fruit. It was extremely busy. Given the capacity of the hotel, they needed to use their conference spaces and add tables in the hallways to have enough seating area for guests. This leads me to another point - two elevators aren't enough to handle the volume of people moving through at breakfast time. I had waited a significant amount of time waiting for the elevators, only to see it was full - twice! It was faster for me to walk down the stairs. Overall, it was an average quality hotel in a nice location, but is not built to handle volume. If I visit Kingston, I would be more inclined to try another hotel.

“Average at best”

we were really surprised as the reviews seemed pretty good but we should have read more. For almost $400 a night it definitely did not meet expectations. We have stayed at hundred of hotels and my husband is a travel agent. Here is our thoughts: the room was $367 with tax and parking is $40. Reception was great, pool and hot tub area looked nice. Most issues were with our room. The bed was extremely uncomfortable, and very squeaky, everytime you moved it squeeked. The toilet is extremely low (think kindergarten class room toilets) and the shower is tiny plus just a small shower head no hand help wand or anything. We paid for harbor view and as you can see in the picture the view is not great (mostly a rooftop) but I guess technically we could see the harbour. The room was spotless, one of the cleanest rooms we've ever stayed in but that is where the perks of the room ended. We also had the breakfast. It was runny continental eggs and microwaved sausage and waffle station with some yogurt and fruit. No toaster or bread/bagels/English muffins. Overall not a hotel we would recommend, especially for the money.
