I loved this boutique hotel,, warm, and welcoming. The owner was friendly and helpful I arrived very late, but the self check-in process was simple with clear instructions. My room was cozy, perfectly ok for me, but if you prefer more space, you might consider upgrading to a larger room. It had everything I needed for a comfortable stay. Meals aren’t offered, but they do provide complimentary tea and coffee, which was a nice touch. The only challenge for us was carrying our luggage and materials upstairs, as there is no elevator. If I had known, I would definitely have requested a ground-floor room. Just something for future guests to keep in mind. I also secretly wish they offered food… even if they offered breakfast at a cost (you can tell I love my food!). The hotel is located on a quiet street, which made it peaceful Overall, a nice boutique stay.

From the tender age of seventeen, Switzerland became my most-visited European country, beginning with a chamber music course in Saint-Prex on Lake Lausanne in 1969. Decades later, what fun it was to step back in time as I settled in to my second-storey digs just a few blocks away from my alma mater, uOttawa. The single “suite” featured a limb-relaxing hot tub, a serious writing desk (all the better for penning some reviews) and a large four-post bed that made deep sleep a breeze. The only cautions were a very narrow loo and light switches that, at best, were not intuitive. No worries, the delightful native-born host responded quickly to my few requests (ah, there’s never enough coffee) as we exchanged memories of my favourite home away from home. Those in search of a slightly off the beaten track (just a few blocks to the Rideau Centre) abode would be well advised to step into this Swiss oasis and experience it for themselves.

Decent location; walkable to Rideau O-Train station, Rideau Market, National Art Centre, et al. The rooms them are well-sized with good amenities (bedside USB chargers, Nespresso machine), but the bathrooms and stairs are on the narrow side, plus there are no elevators in the building, so I'd recommend travelling light if possible. Taking a point off because the TV and internet connections dropped out occasionally. However, I'd like to give a special shout-out to Sabine for being such a gracious host!
