After we read all the reviews about this "quirky" hotel, we decided to give it a shot. It was a two night stay and we figured we could always move if we absolutely had to. What a great decision. At first glance, the lobby is inviting. Nicely decorated, a cross between art deco and mid century modern. Check in was lovely. Elevator had ample space for us to get our cruise luggage up to the room. The room is exactly as pictured in most of the photos. We had a king sized bed. Plenty of room here. The bathroom shower was HUGE, with two sets of shower heads on either side. You could call this 'quirky' because there's a window in the shower that looks right into the bedroom (your option to close the curtain from the bedroom side is there!). The beautiful, old wood floors in the room did creak, but there's something old world about that and it didn't bother us one bit. If you have someone above you, it may be bothersome, but we were fine. The bed, pillows and linens were so comfortable, we slept very well. The comfort of the room was A+ as far as the temperature is concerned. The small breakfast area is right in front of the check in desk. We read the complaints about the sparse breakfast, but for us, continental breakfast was perfect to start our day and tour Montreal. We had a wonderful time at Chez Swann and the staff was just lovely. No complaints here. We look for two important things in a hotel stay: cleanliness and comfort. Everything else is second.

“Could be better”

This hotel was difficult to rate- while a super cool boutique hotel vibe it was missing some elements to make the stay more comfortable. Our room had no hand soaps in the bathroom. We had to use the wall dispenser in the shower to wash our hands which was odd. We also had no sugars or stir stick… more

This hotel was difficult to rate- while a super cool boutique hotel vibe it was missing some elements to make the stay more comfortable. Our room had no hand soaps in the bathroom. We had to use the wall dispenser in the shower to wash our hands which was odd. We also had no sugars or stir sticks for our in room coffee - it seemed as though the room (while decently clean) had not been restocked after the last use. We also hadn’t realized the room on the third floor had a giant skylight in the centre of it- which while neat during the day woke us up bright and early at 5:45am. After arriving late the previous night we had not expected this and it was less than ideal. This was not disclosed upon booking or check in so we had no way of avoiding it. The fabric covering for said skylight was also stained from some sort of water issue. Which made it look dirty and not so aesthetic. The one bedside hanging lamp had also been completely removed and the empty electrical hole was obviously vacant beside the bed. Which was also not the prettiest. On the flip side the bed was super comfortable and the sheets clean. The breakfast in the morning was perfectly adequate- Cereals, juice, coffee, croissants and pastries, I know some reviews had issue with the breakfast but we were pleased. I would say if you just need a place to crash this hotel is adequate. It’s just shy from being great and definitely has potential if the owners step it up in the areas mentioned.
