First of all, the staff here is both plentiful, friendly and welcoming. We had no problem with our booking for our double room. Our receptionist checked us in quite efficiently and gave us a tour of our room. One has to understand the very rustic style of this hotel (the Kimal side, at least), which is aligned with the San Pedro community, in general. The room was quite large and had adobe-like concrete walls with straw showing through. The ceiling is thatched, although there is roofing, so one shouldn’t encounter leaks. Most should find it quite charming. The bathroom, in contrast, was quite modern with a nice shower and vanity. The room was a little sparse on storage (drawers, closet space), but we managed quite well. There is a safe and fridge, but there is no TV (not a critical detriment and not uncommon with rustic areas of Chile). Unfortunately, the Wi-Fi is poor to non-existent in the room. This is 2026, and working, strong Wi-Fi signal is an expectation. BTW, the cellular signal in the Kimal location is very good. So, with no TV and poor Wi-Fi the value proposition changes. Also of note, the climate control is not able to be controlled by the guest (strange)- one has to call the front desk to call a very friendly maintenance man to come and change the setting. The setting is also not allowed to go under 21C, so if you run hot, especially at night, it may be a consideration. So, the reasons that bring the room down from a 5-star rating are the poor Wi-Fi and climate control, which are both a nuisance. More on the positive side, the hotel grounds are beautiful, all with the desert motif. Sitting areas are quaint and attractive, although some of the furniture is showing age. The included breakfast is great and on par with the better hotels in Chile. The restaurant is very nice and not priced excessively like many others at this level of hotel. Housekeeping, along with reception, is also efficient, accommodating and friendly and have no problem with special requests (as I had to ask for a fan to mitigate the climate control). Overall, I would return, but the Wi-Fi needs to get better, and I would need the fan once again.

“A good stop in San Pedro”

“Decent 3 star Hotel at the edge of the town”

We stayed at Hotel Kimal for 5 nights in Dec 2025. We chose this hotel because of its location, an easy walking distance to town. The room is nice as expected. There are two swimming pools which we didn't get to use. The picture of the reception on their website is actually the reception of the spa which rarely has any customers. The spa reception is 'connected' to the rooms and one swimming pool, the actual reception is across the street along with the restaurant and the second swimming pool. The actual reception is quite small, but there's a staff at the reception 24 hours, although most of the early morning staffs do not speak English well. To get to the hotel reception, you need to go across a fairly busy street, and when you get back to the side of the rooms, you need to use a key ( which is different from your room key) to open the front gate. I found that to be quite inconvenient. They do provide fresh and cold water at the restaurant so there's no need to buy water from the stores. The hotel is on the edge of the town, very close to a restaurant that has a live band playing loud music past midnight on weekends. When we checked in, I found that strange to have ear plugs on the night stands. If you a light sleeper, make sure you don't get the room close to the spa reception, otherwise you won't be able to sleep on Friday and Saturday nights. The rooms further away are not affected by the noise. For this reason, I don't recommend this hotel.

This review would have been much more positive, but for one major flaw. The hotel is nicely located, with car parking. The buildings are nicely designed, with a very relaxed feel. The restaurant is fine, with an above average breakfast, with friendly and helpful staff. The big flaw was our bed, which was long overdue for replacement. The wobbly bed-frame and soggy mattress meant that we did not get a decent night's sleep for the 4 nights we were there. If the problem had been something that had gone gone wrong recently, and the staff could fix it, I would not be writing this review, but since a worn-out bed would have been obvious for many months (if not years), I do not feel inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt. Hotel Kimal is not cheap (though nowhere in San Pedro is), but we have stayed in other hotels here in the same price bracket with far better beds.
