There appears to be a growing trend nowadays, for hotels to call themselves 'Boutique', when they are far from it. This is certainly not the case here. There is a classiness to the hotel, from the moment you enter; it's like objects have been carefully placed around the hotel, asking to be photographed. But it's not all show. There is a delightful balcony and relaxed seating areas. The room itself is clean and modern, and has good facilities. If I was being picky, there was no charging point next to the bed, but not a game-changer. The staff were friendly and helpful, and reception monitor people coming into the grounds, with a locked/monitored front gate. There was a great selection at breakfast (including a great choice of tea!), and whilst the restaurant wasn't open in the evening, we enjoyed, possibly the best Italian meal that we've had anywhere in the world, for lunch. And again, the restaurant itself was beautiful and photogenic.

This is the only place to stay in Valparaiso. A beautiful hotel with amazing staff and the perfect location. Location is in one of the two areas with the best street art. Steps away from great restaurants. Immediately next door to a fine arts museum that is absolutely worth a visit. Directly on a little plaza perfect for people watching. Our room had a balcony, and I spent hours just relaxing on the balcony, looking at the ships in the harbor and the light changing on the tin-roofed buildings on the hills. Staff go above and beyond. Before we arrived, they arranged transportation for us from Santiago and to areas near Valparaiso. Once we arrived, we were, for various reasons, more needy on this leg of our trip than we usually are. Everyone at the front desk was smiling and helpful every time we interacted with them. Our room and bathroom were large and comfortable. The breakfast was the best breakfast buffet I've had anywhere, down to individual teapots for those of us who drink tea instead of coffee. One morning there wasn't a buffet for some reason, but the staff arranged for just the two of us an almost embarrassingly large breakfast spread anyway. Finally, the hotel has charming public spaces, such as a wide patio and a reading/games room. My only tips: --WhatsApp is better than email for communicating with staff. --The street to access the hotel can be a bit tricky, such that the hotel is sometimes better approached by reversing down the street from just uphill of the hotel. Locals understood how to handle it; I absolutely don't recommend driving there yourself in a rental car (also rental cars are easily identifiable and yes, we saw them with tires punctured). Valparaiso is 100% worth more than a day visit, and where you stay in Valparaiso makes all the difference. As we walked around, I saw the other hotels we'd considered. They seemed fine, but I loved Palacio Astoreca!

A lovely elegant old style hotel set in a pretty part of Valparaiso. We enjoyed our stay here, finding the front desk staff (in particular the young lady who checked us in and was there in the afternoons) friendly and helpful. We were kindly given an upgrade from a junior suite to what had to be the best room in the house - and that was a very lovely surprise! The room was super, spacious, elegantly decorated, had a wonderful comfortable bed and had beautiful views from the room and large balcony. The homemade biscuits brought to the room each evening were a nice touch. We enjoyed a few quiet drinks on our balcony watching the sun go down each evening. Very nice shower in the bathroom too. The breakfast here was the best we had in our three week trip and 8 different hotels (including some very fancy 5* places). It was a fairly simple buffet but we loved the large array of delicious fruit on offer, the delicious bakery items and the loose leaf tea made me very happy indeed! If there had been a bar in house we would have made use of the beautiful lounge / terrace area - which looked very comfortable (maybe something for the hotel owners to consider?) but the hotel is an easy stroll to nearby bars and restaurants.
