“Nice hotel with lovely people”

A very nice hotel wirh lovely people working there. The room was nice and clean. Check in worked well and check out the same. A big thank you to Lisa Zhao, she is a great Manager. I felt welcome. Great breakfast buffet and generous evening buffet.

The staff were very good, helpful and efficient, excellent buffet breakfast with lots of choice. Good location near station, shopping malls and restaurants. The hotel seems to be in two parts, and some of it is currently being renovated. We had a room in the older part which was comfortable enough but was very dated and in need of modernisation. The swimming pool and jacuzzi was also in need of updating, not the standard I would have expected from a Hilton Hotel.

Hilton Xi'an, located in one of China's ancient capitals, had left me with such an excellent impression that I insisted on staying at Hilton Beijing for my next trip. My friend, who holds Accor elite status, tried to persuade me otherwise. "Sofitel is available. Fairmont is actually even cheaper." I smiled and insisted. After all, this was the capital. Looking back, I wasn't wrong. It truly was a capital-worthy experience—just not in the way I had imagined. The surprises began at check-in. I never expected that, in an international hotel brand, English would turn out to be one of the rarest amenities. It almost felt as though the hotel had adopted an educational philosophy of encouraging guests to improve their Mandarin instead. When I entered my room, I found that the hotel had embraced the concept of "the passage of time" with remarkable dedication. The curtains, bedding, and fabric lampshades were decorated with stains that appeared to have accumulated over many years. The wallpaper had evolved into a form of modern art, peeling away with admirable artistic freedom. The dust itself was no ordinary dust—it seemed to represent layers of history and tradition. Upon a visit, the housekeeping kindly upgraded me to a suite. It was a valuable opportunity to reconsider the definition of the word "suite." While the room was larger, its overall condition remained remarkably consistent with the previous one. Still, the psychological comfort provided by the word "upgrade" was certainly appreciated. The most memorable event, however, took place on the morning of checkout. After breakfast, I returned to my room only to discover that my key card no longer worked. At the front desk, I was told that I needed to pay the security deposit again. I explained that the deposit had already been paid and that I would be checking out within a few hours, so being locked out of my room made very little sense. Shortly afterward, a supervisor, whom I will refer to as "B," joined the conversation. I shared my concerns in detail. During our discussion, she laughed at me twice and, on another occasion, turned her head away and laughed out. Whether this was intended as reassurance or something else remains a mystery to me. One moment, however, remains particularly vivid. I explained that the primary reason I had chosen Hilton was because I expected to communicate comfortably in English at an international hotel. Immediately afterward, she confidently continued speaking to me in Mandarin. When I returned to my room, I began noticing details that I had initially tried to ignore. I shared evetrthing with the front office manager. He offered me 5,000 Hilton Honors points as an apology. When I politely declined because compensation was not my primary concern, the offer was increased to 7,000 points. I declined again. Eventually, I requested a meeting with the General Manager. More than a refund or compensation, I wanted one thing: accountability. I wanted someone to acknowledge that the service attitude I had experienced fell short of the standards expected from an international luxury hotel. The General Manager explained that "B" had not been laughing at me. According to him, she had recently undergone wisdom tooth extraction, and that was simply the expression on her face. It was certainly one of the most memorable explanations I have ever received in my years of traveling. At that moment, I quietly realized that finding justice in this matter might prove more difficult than I had hoped. The management later offered to arrange a two-night stay at another Hilton property in Beijing. I told them I would consider it and later suggested a few hotels. They said they would explore the possibilities. To be fair, one employee, whom I will refer to as "V," genuinely listened, communicated professionally, and appeared to make sincere efforts to resolve the situation. I appreciate her professionalism. Several weeks passed without any meaningful update. Eventually, Hilton informed me that they would instead provide a refund. Money can reimburse a hotel bill. It cannot restore the time, anticipation, and memories invested in a journey that I had genuinely been looking forward to.
