“Excellent rooms but clear wear and tear”

Stayed here for the first two nights we had in Beijing. Very nice rooms, a bit exaggerated with the golden color water taps etc but rooms are excellent, rustic style. Has a good gym, but open 6:30-22:30, which is unpractical when you are jet lagged. Hotel is displaying signs of wear and tear though… more

Stayed here for the first two nights we had in Beijing. Very nice rooms, a bit exaggerated with the golden color water taps etc but rooms are excellent, rustic style. Has a good gym, but open 6:30-22:30, which is unpractical when you are jet lagged. Hotel is displaying signs of wear and tear though and by now we have stayed in other hotels in Beijing and elsewhere. Some example: brown and torn silicon lining in the shower that makes the place look less fresh than one expects, a lot of stains in the carpets in the common areas.

“Good hotel lacking 5 star attitude and with some issues”

Hotel is really great, looks luxurious and is in a great location. It's a huge edifice resembling French architecture. Hotel is really great, looks luxurious and is in a great location. It's a huge edifice resembling French architecture. Entering it makes you stunned looking up at a huge atrium from floor to ceiling - very impressive. Check in was fast, however none of the staff helped us with huge amount of luggage we had - we did it by ourselves. Not a practice anywhere else in a 5 star property. Rooms are big and spacious, luxuriously furnished, even kitschy decorated in heavy gilded rococo style. However, the AC was not working well, it was cold so we asked for extra heaters to bring us. Again, not common for such a property. Breakfast was a disappointment - at orbit price of almost 30$ pp it was underwhelming with poor (for such a class) choice of cold cuts and cheese. I suggest not taking breakfast - it's simply not worth it. Pool, hot tubs and saunas were great. Really good, with good temperature and kind staff.

It felt like time had paused here. The hotel had an old-world charm with a luxurious, traditional Western atmosphere. The room was spacious and reasonably priced. However, there was a strong cigarette smell everywhere, including in our room. The hotel had central air conditioning, but it didn’t seem to work at all. When we complained, guest services simply suggested opening the windows, which wasn’t really an option because Beijing’s air pollution was very bad at the time. They then said they would send someone to check the problem. When the maid arrived, she seemed quite annoyed and just opened the windows anyway. As a result, we ended up sweating in the room for the rest of our stay.
