“This is my go-to hotel in Beijing”

I really like this hotel. Becau Ise it's in the protected district of downtown Beijing, it's more expensive than most hostels, but expensive is relative: you'll be saving a hundred dollars or more per night compared to the fancy chain hotels. I stay in the hostel wing so I can't speak to the private suites. The hallways in the hostel wing are lined with signatures and stories, and the rooms are simple and clean, though some of the electrical outlets aren't reliable for charging your equipment. But the A/C is very efficient, which is much needed mid-summer in Beijing! The bathroom in the hostel wing is divided into a toilet chamber and a shower chamber. There are private stalls, but you could be sharing the room with anyone at any given time. Usually only two of the showers are working, though, so be careful. The staff all speak English better than they'll tell you they can, and are very helpful. On the day you check out, if you're going to be sight seeing before you officially leave town, you can leave your luggage at the office and collect it later in the day. However, they do get a little pricey: 25 RMB and a 50 RMB deposit for a towel where they used to leave one on your bed for free (just bring your own), 15 RMB per KG for laundry, and a 100 RMB deposit for the key card. The thing I like best about Ming Courtyard is that the guests are friendly, and eager to meet each other. Some hostels have silent bedrooms with no talking, but I've always made new friends at Ming. It's also in a nice location, which has only been improved now that the city has paved the hutong, and brought in more businesses along the alley.

Really good location, just off Ghost street down a quiet hutong. It’s a quiet courtyard hostel, Ihad a private double room which was spacious enough for a short trip and was clean. Western style bathroom, air con and tv. Only downside was the bed is Chinese style, so pretty hard, the WiFi in the rooms isn’t the best and there’s no fridge. However the reception sells beer and cold soft drinks and there are plenty of shops nearby. Reception staff were helpful and spoke good English. I’d probably return as, even with the hard bed, it’s a great price for the location

四合院は以前より興味がありました。 今回、北京に行く機会があったのでこちらのMing Courtyardへ一泊しました。中庭側のシングルの部屋でしたが、中は静かでリゾート感もありました。大通りから少し入ったところにあり、タクシーではホテルの前まで行けないので少し不便でしたがまた機会があれば行ってみたいです。シャワーは、水と熱湯の間が設定し辛いというか、私は設定できませんでした。水量も少量でそれが少し困ったことです。あと、受付は無愛想でしたが、中国語の話せない外人にウンザリしているのでしょう。中国語を話すと親切にしてくれました。 SIHEYUAN was more interested th… more

Since I had the opportunity to go to Beijing this time, I stayed in this Ming's courtyard overnight. It was a single room on the courtyard side, but the inside was quiet and there was a resort feeling. It's a little inconvenient because it's just a short walk from the main street and you can't get to the hotel by taxi. The shower was difficult to set between water and hot water, or I could not set it. There was little amount of water and was a little troubled. Also, the reception was not friendly, but it was helpful to speak Chinese. 四合院比以往更感兴趣。 这次我有机会去北京，所以我在麦加的院子里过夜。 那是庭院一侧的一间单人房，但是很安静，有一种度假的感觉。 这有点不方便，因为距主要街道仅几步之遥，而且您不能乘出租车去酒店。 很难在水和热水之间建立淋浴。 一点水，一点麻烦。 接待处不友好，但会说中文会有所帮助。

“Budget option with a bit of charm”

An acceptable budget option. The location is decent. It's great that it is in a hutong, and it is easy to find. It's not right next to the subway, but not that far either. An acceptable budget option. The location is decent. It's great that it is in a hutong, and it is easy to find. It's not right next to the subway, but not that far either. There are tons of restaurants on nearby Ghost Street (Gui Jie), though most of those specialize in crayfish hot pot and kabobs. Go west from the hotel instead for some small places serving Chinese breakfasts. There are also lots of ice cream and bubble tea shops around. Grandmother's Kitchen serves Western food, including breakfast and has a pleasant courtyard. There are also some good Japanese (not sushi) restaurants near the Beixinqiao subway entrance. The hotel has a large central courtyard with tables, recliners and a porch swing. As courtyards go, it is not especially charming, but is pleasant enough. The rooms are furnished with traditional Chinese furniture, which adds character but is pretty uncomfortable. My room was clean. The lighting was poor, and had to unplug things to have enough outlets. Even then, one outlet didn't work well. The pillow was thin and the bed hard. The bathroom offered basic amenities. There was no shower stall, just a curtain dividing the shower from the rest of the bathroom, but fortunately water seemed to stay mostly on the shower end of the room and dried quickly. The staff spoke English and were reasonably helpful, though often busy with another customer. The hotel seems to nickel and dime a bit: 100 RMB deposit for a key which is refundable if you don't loose it, but don't be surprised if you get stuck for for RMB for a damaged towel or such. I stayed in a run-down budget chain hotel in Beijing for a similar price, and honestly can't decide which I like more. This hotel is certainly more charming and in a more interesting area, but the other was a bit more functional and comfortable.
