“First stay at Curio Collection!”

We chose this hotel because of its central location, directly across from Yuexiu Park, one of the four major parks in Guangzhou. Check-in was straightforward and Trista assisted us. One surprise was the deposit policy as they charged RMB 1K as a deposit, which felt a bit steep. Since I paid with my AMEX card, the refund can take longer to process. One important thing to note is that the executive lounge no longer exists. It has been permanently closed and converted into a restaurant. In place of lounge access, the hotel provides RMB 100 daily credit, which can be used either on the 8th or the 3rd floor. We used ours on the 8th floor. However, there is a mandatory 15% service charge, so when we ordered a pastry and a ginger ale, the total came to around RMB 95 after the service charge. It’s a reasonable way to use the credit, but if you’re specifically booking this hotel for an executive lounge experience, you may want to reconsider. In addition, the choux puff ¥58 we got was very hard and I won't order it again. Our room itself was comfortable. We stayed in #1610, which faces the park. One feature we specifically needed was a washer, and fortunately this floor had one. Initially, we were assigned a room on the 22nd floor, but the top two floors do not have washers, so we requested to move to a different floor. Sound insulation was ok but we can hear people talking in the hallway. Wifi was reliable throughout our stay but have to reconnect each time we get out of the elevator. The real issue was with the AC. Guangzhou was already quite warm at 25°C/77°F in early March. Room temperature was set to 20°C/68°F, but it never dropped. Even after two visits from the engineering team, the system couldn’t cool the room down to 20°C. Eventually, they provided a portable cooling unit, which helped bring the temperature down to around 19.5°C, making the room much more comfortable. Housekeeping also suggested opening the windows at night, but we decided not to due to concerns about bugs. Service throughout the hotel was excellent. Housekeeping was very responsive, usually delivering requested items within about five minutes. The concierge team was also extremely helpful—special thanks to Will, Mona, and Mr. Huang, the supervisor. One team member who truly stood out was Robin. He went far beyond what would normally be expected. We were trying to purchase high-speed rail tickets from GZ to Zhangjiajie, but as foreigners it was difficult to use the 12306 railway platform w/o a Chinese phone number. Robin spent over 90 minutes helping us troubleshoot the issue. He called customer service on our behalf and ultimately suggested that we purchase a Chinese SIM card to resolve the problem. His patience and dedication were genuinely impressive. We later shared this positive experience with Steve, who appeared to be either the front desk manager or manager on duty. He claimed he was the chief apology manager! He also sent some fruits and cakes for our anniversary celebration! Breakfast was quite elaborate with lots of options for both Eastern and Western customers. Tony was friendly! We used the steam and sauna but unfortunately the pool was closed for maintenance during our stay. Overall, the staff were friendly and eager to help. I speak both Mandarin and Cantonese, which certainly made communication easier, though most staff members seemed to have a decent level of English as well. The surrounding area is another big advantage. As the hotel advertises, it’s about a 10-minute walk to Beijing Road Pedestrian Street, where you’ll find plenty of restaurants, shops, and massage places. Because the hotel is in a prime area, prices are slightly higher than in the outskirts of the city, but compared with places like Texas, everything still feels affordable. Overall, despite the missing executive lounge and the initial AC issue, we had a comfortable stay and appreciated the excellent service. We would definitely consider staying here again when visiting the area.

The rooms was kept clean which is my number one priority on hotels I stay. 4 stars because the food I ordered wasn’t great at all. Order a classic burger . May be I just should… more
