There’s so much to love about this Novotel. The Novotel offers a wonderful airport transfer from the hotel shuttle pick up point with great staff that are very much hands on with your luggage. You arrive at the hotel to experience the most impressive grand travertine laden foyer. It’s so very spacious and the focus point for checking in, going to breakfast, the bar and heading up to mega shopping @ Citygate. We had a much appreciated room upgrade in fact I do believe it may have even been several room categories higher. Wonderful layout and views to be fair. The rooms in their heyday would have been absolutely magnificent. The only downside is the rooms are dated and I’m sure the hotel knows they need modernising. It happens to every establishment sooner or later. Some small confusion also on the welcome drinks as they appeared in the app but than you can’t redeem them from the app you apparently need to still receive paper versions so had to go back to reception for the paper version in the end only used one for a coffee that Mr Jack organised for me which I really appreciated. Breakfast was pretty good with a decent spread of Eastern and Western options. The highlight for me over two mornings was the fantastic chef Ms Cherry. At the helm on the active soup and omelette stations. What a pleasure to meet her and watch her bring those lovely selections together. The executive lounge was also good. Everything you pretty much need but here also the highlight was meeting and getting to know the two most incredibly warm and welcoming ladies Ms Junko and Ms Maria. Hard working and making sure the guests feel valued and well looked after. I can not praise them both enough. Thank you ladies you really did and do make a huge difference and your dedicated and tireless commitment to the service and hospitality industry should be celebrated. Finally although I had some small gripes with a few small issues I still rate the hotel as an option for an airport stay especially if the rooms get upgraded. The saving grace for me again comes down to an incredible front office supervisor/manager the most fabulous and professional Ms Grima! The absolute epitome of a first class hotelier. I hope and know one day she will be a department head or even better a GM. You truely saved the day and watching you swing into action with service recovery was both impressive and extraordinarily commendable. Finally to Mr Tommy thank you I know your heart was in the right place and for that I sincerely thank you and we all have days with opportunities to better ourselves.

Stayed at Novotel Citygate Hong Kong recently and overall it was a decent experience. The hotel shuttle service was very helpful and convenient, especially for airport transfers and getting around the area. The room was comfortable and clean, though there were limited charging ports available, so don’t forget to bring a universal adapter if you’re traveling internationally. One thing to note is that the room door was quite heavy and not easy to open, especially for young kids and seniors, so extra care is needed. The location is great if you’re planning to stay around Lantau Island, with nearby shopping malls and easy access to attractions. The front desk staff were also very kind, friendly, and accommodating throughout the stay. Overall, a good and convenient hotel option for travelers looking to explore the Tung Chung and Lantau area.

“Still a Good Stay but Premier Lounge Experience Has Declined”

I've stayed at Novotel Citygate many times since my first visit there almost 20 years ago. What I always liked about it was its location; relatively quiet compared to Kowloon or even the north side of Hong Kong Island (Wanchai, Causeway Bay, etc.), yet only 30 min away on the Tung Chung Line. The proximity to the airport is also very convenient, especially with the free shuttle. The easy access to the Citygate outlet mall, together with the MTR station, was always an added bonus. And of course the staff was, and remain, helpful, cooperative and pleasant. My most recent stays were in February 2026 and about a year earlier. Over these last two visits especially, I've noticed a decline in the services provided at the Premier Lounge. The staff there are exceedingly nice but the quality of the food served, both at afternoon tea and cocktails in the evening, has dropped significantly. In fact, on my last visit, the food on offer was quite miserable compared to previous visits. For that reason, I don't think it's worth it to book an Executive room with Premier Lounge access any more. Breakfast in Essence is still very good but I did notice a slight drop in food quality, with regard to the bacon and the croissants. The bacon is no longer crispy and is, in fact tough and chewy. The croissants no longer have the nice buttery flavour. Not much to complain about in an extensive buffet but perhaps worth noting. Finally, as others have noted, the decor is becoming a bit dated after almost 20 years. However, as far as I'm concerned, there has been no noticeable decline in cleanliness of the rooms and other areas and everything is still functional. I always try to book hotel rooms with lounge access, so my main complaint here is the quality of the food offerings in the Premier Lounge. and, for that reason alone, I would not consider returning for my future visits in January and Feburary of 2027. If you don't need Premier Lounge access, then all should be fine. NONE OF THE FOLLOWING IS A CRITIQUE OF THE HOTEL, but just an observation which I think is a factor in staying in Tung Chung if you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city in the evenings: Since the mall expanded, and incorporated another hotel (Silveri), it has become exceedingly busy, with hordes of tourists (mostly from mainland China), many of whom seem to be on shopping expeditions and filling suitcases with purchased merchandise. During the day, there can be very long line-ups for the escalators and the new food fair seems to have trouble accomodating people who want to sit down to eat. Many of the shops can get so crammed with people that shopping can cease to become a pleasant experience. Personally, I'd rather stay in an area like Causeway Bay which, of course, has a lot of hustle and bustle but also has some distinct advantages, compared to living out by the airport.
