The T Hotel is a training hotel, operated Hong Kong's the Hotel and Tourism Institute, under the Vocational Training Council, and if you know that, staying there can be fun. Fun how? Well, as a training hotel, service is provided by students, guided by instructors who are hospitality industry veterans. The students rotate through the hotel service functions (e.g. F&B, front desk, operations), and they travel in packs, delivering service, and observing instructors and classmates. If you arrive shortly after a rotation, you can anticipate service at novice levels, but mostly, it's amusing. Service levels are also highly variable. Imagine coming back to your room every day and playing a game in which you try to discover what housekeeping task has been forgotten. No towels today, ring the front desk. No slippers? Ring the front desk. And so on. Some students are clearly going to succeed in the industry; others need to overcome severe shyness. One observation: I used to live in Hong Kong, and until 10-15 years ago, it was a solidly English-speaking city (and Cantonese, of course). The city has pivoted hard to Mandarin, as a result of political events, and some of the students at the T Hotel clearly speak almost no English (some also seem afraid to try, but that can be overcome). Overall, large rooms, excellent value (if you're okay with student service), and Pokfulam is well-served by buses and minibuses, with Aberdeen close by.

The T Hotel is a hidden jewel in Hong Kong. Tucked away in Pok Fu Lam this training hotel excels in making guests feel at home and comfortable. The rooms are large with a super shower/bathroom; the staff supervise the students, ensuring guests receive great service. The hotel is serviced by 20+ buses and easy access to the MTR. The views from the hotel are spectacular, there is ample shopping at Chi Fu Landmark which is an easy 5-minute walk away. The students are delightful, helpful and enthusiastic. This is a wonderful ‘home from home’ hotel (to which we have returned more than 10 times) and a great place to embark on exploring Hong Kong and many of the islands. My husband and I recommend The T Hotel unreservedly, 100% and certainly consider it our Hong Kong home. Wendy and Manfred Kuhlmann

This hotel is truly a hidden gem in Pokfulam. Although it’s a training hotel with just one floor, the room facilities and the view are five-star. My room was very spacious and spotlessly clean, facing the beautiful and quiet Cyberport area and the sea, an unbeatable ocean view. The restaurant serves delicious food prepared by the culinary school—excellent quality and presentation. The lounge is reserved for hotel guests and members, so it feels private and relaxing. The staff are very friendly; many are teachers and students from the training program. Please be patient with the students if anything goes wrong, they’re learning, and the training here is excellent. Special thanks to our reception staff, Mr Oscar, who gave us a helpful tour and introduced us to the facilities. Overall, highly recommended.
