“Nice hotel, good location”

Big comfortable room and superb breakfast. The hotel is near to many atractions, but its also nice to walk around in the city in the evening. It has a pool and the gym. I tried the massage, but I would not recommend it. Overall it was nice to stay here

We stayed here for 4 nights. The room was huge, modern and very comfortable indeed. The shower was good too. We were really impressed by how prompt the service was by room service and housekeeping. We asked for extra soap one evening, and it was delivered within 10 minutes of our phone call. We ordered room service on our first night there, and the food -- which was quite decent -- was delivered within 30 minutes. We send some clothes for laundry and it came back nicely ironed and folded and packed nicely in a plastic bag. Absolutely impressed by their service for the rooms. Service at front desk and at the driveway (concierge and doormen) were good too. They were considerate, polite and took care of us nicely. But in terms of the hardware, the hotel is substandard to say the least. The lobby and corridors are not heated, so if we were to eat in the all-day dining restaurant, we would have to do so in our great coats. The restaurant did not look inviting in the evening, and looked barely open. No one was there manning it. The menu was limited, if anyone was around to serve you at all. Breakfast in the restaurant was a chaotic, frenzied mess. There were not enough tables/seats but the restaurant staff just kept packing people in with no regard for numbers. So people were standing around waiting for others to finish their meal so they could grab the seats the moment they were vacated. The coffee machines ran out of milk and were not replenished, and they were dirty -- caked with days-old milk and other residue. The buffet platters and serving spoons were also stained and caked with coagulated food from heavy use all morning, and should have been replaced but they were not. It was very crowded and you had to literally squeeze through to get your food. People there don't queue so be prepared to struggle for your meal. It was awful. The food was ok, but not worth the stress and exertions. We ended up getting some pastries (not that great) from the buffet and went back to our room to have breakfast instead. The bar was non-existent even though the hotel listed it as an F&B option, and drinks came from a vending machine. There was one shop tucked away in the corner of the hotel but it was messy, badly lit, the person running it was indifferent, and the packets of snacks look like they had been hanging there for the last couple of years. Many public areas of the hotel had their lights turned off and looked abandoned, which was very off-putting. This included a restaurant which was clearly closed/abandoned but the doors were left open. Signs in the lobby still directed people to it. If you stay here, be prepared that the food options here are substandard. Thankfully, you can walk or get a 'didi' to the town centre for proper food. This was touted as a five-star hotel and 'the best in town'. This is NOT a 5-star hotel. Whoever is running this hotel needs a lot more training and needs to understand what international standards are truly about. (It has also been renamed Howard Johnson, no longer Crowne Plaza.) I'll not recommend this place at all.
