It's probably important to point out first that JI Hotel is a budget hotel. It's not the Shangri-La, but it is clean, modern and friendly. And the location in the historic part of town is excellent. You're within a very short stroll of Guan Qian Shopping precinct, which will take care of all your food and beverage (and fashion and department store) needs. The Humble Administrator's Garden and Pingjiang Road are must-see attractions that are only 15 minutes walk from here, and there are many other gardens and attractions within walking distance. If you want to go further afield, there's a subway station near the hotel. The hotel itself is attractive, laid out over several buildings with internal courtyard gardens. It's an ideal choice of hotel here, great value and an excellent base for some Suzhou tourism. A few traveller tips: • If you're not Chinese, you won't be the first foreigner staying here and the desk staff do speak English, but be patient and gracious... you're not in Shanghai anymore • The free wifi is solid, but it requires a local phone number. Just hand your phone/tablet/laptop over at the front desk and let them log you on. • It's a small hotel, so taxi drivers may not know its name or where it is. They will know Guan Qian Shopping Street though, which is a pedestrian mall that runs from Lindun Road (the main road). There is a big Marks & Spencers on the corner. If you alight from a cab there you are only 20 meters away. Just look up and down the canal and you will see the Foo Dogs at the door to the hotel. • Carry the name and address in Chinese to show the taxi driver, and the phone number in case he/she needs to call. It'll make your trip smoother. Cab drivers have GPS on their phones.

Ji offers modern traditional decor with a welcoming courtyard garden beyond the reception. You will be able to brew yourself a soothing pot of tea for two in your room. The room lacks an in-room safe. TV channels are solely in Chinese. WiFi is available but requires passport identification. The staff though polite, speaks limited English but it should be sufficient to get you checked-in. Ji however does offer a modern room and a very comfortable bed for the night. The hotel does not offer breakfast but you can get a local breakfast just 3-5 mins stroll from the hotel.
